Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

We had so much fun designing and trying the games out for our Summer Fayre in August. Making sure they all worked as we planned and giving us lots of practice before the summer fayre. We hope it will be lovely weather for us to raise some money for a good cause.

We had a lovely afternoon creating our own pizza’s to enjoy in the garden with the sun. We had a lovely afternoon adding tomato sauce to the base and deciding on our own toppings before they went into the oven. They were delicious and we sat outside in the garden to enjoy them and the

We wanted to do something a little different at the home in July to enjoy the sun we were having so decided to have a Hawaiian Island themed party at the home. We brought out the paddling pool, dressed the garden and had such a lovely afternoon.

We had a very special birthday in July when Mary celebrated her 90th birthday with us. As always we had cake’s and a singsong and made the day as special as possible for Mary. She had such a lovely day celebrating with the residents before a visit with her family.

We have enjoyed having our entertainers back into the home in July with a spot of gentle Thai Chi on an afternoon. We have enjoyed relearning all of the moves and this gentle exercise is good for our coordination too.

The lovely weather in July has been brilliant for our residents and we really enjoyed getting out for a walk to Barnes Park to feed the ducks. The residents had a lovely afternoon and we have started to plan more trips to the park.

Our first trip out since covid, we used the local bus services, and went to the cinema, we watched Elvis. There was lots of dancing and a few tears, an amazing film but very sad indeed. Our residents loved it and we are already planning for more trips out.

We proudly collected the award for Care Home of the Year at the MMCG and Countrywide Care Awards in Leeds last night. We are so proud to collect this award on behalf of the residents and staff of White Rose Lodge.

At White Rose Lodge, we were lucky to have a new entertainer perform for us after lunch; Stephen Brailsford who is based in Scarborough, sang a selection of hits from the 50s and 60s. He made us all laugh with his jokes and helped us to reminisce with his stories.

We celebrated National Sister’s Day in August and organised an arts and craft session to show our sisters that we love them here at Willowbank. We all made cards for the residents in the home and wrote them a little message which we popped into an envelope ready for Sisters Day on 7th Augus

We had a wonderful afternoon of creativity and socialising and all of the residents involved in this activity enjoyed it so much.

Minster Grange has adopted a lovely little Bear called Maria. Maria is going on lots of adventures with different children in York to share with our residents.

We have enjoyed delivering an assortment of puzzles and games this afternoon to Amy Senior who is the Community Fundraiser for Dementia Forward in North Yorkshire.

At Corinthian House the chef and team provide different food daily and some of the meals that people require are pureed. Here is an example of some of the pureed meals piped to make the food look more attractive for those individuals that have trouble with swallowing or chewing food.

We not only get to the know the people that live at Corinthian House but also the families and friends.

We celebrated the annual MMCG/Countrywide Care awards at the home in July with a buffet for the staff to enjoy and celebrate our colleagues in the region who were up for awards. We were delighted for everyone who won not only from our region but throughout the company.

Our amazing kitchen team have been at it again. Head Office launched a Carte D’Or challenge and as always our brilliant cooks Steph & Jayne have not only met the challenge but excelled.

Our amazing Assistant Manager/ trainee nursing associate Karl Tomlinson was delighted to win this years Apprentice of the Year award at the MMCG and Countrywide Care Awards in July. We are so proud, and can't think of anyone more deserving.

We had a lovely afternoon celebrating Yorkshire Day in style here at Ashfield Court. We had some Yorkshire treats and enjoyed tea and discussing Yorkshire folk stories and some of our own stories from when we were youngsters.

It was smiles all round in the summer sunshine as we gathered in the garden to show our own creative flair. Our competition was a great way to bring residents together and celebrate our own uniqueness whilst enjoying the friendship too.

Last week we enjoyed a performance from one of our regular Entertainers, Musical Delights with Deborah. The show was based on the 40s and 50s, we clapped and danced whilst some of us even sang a song or two.

We were so pleased to have been visited by a local harpist to play for the people at the home. Everyone really enjoyed listening to the beautiful tones and familiar songs.

Its not everyday that you get to celebrate a Platinum wedding anniversary, 70 years being married is such an achievement. Living at the home, the couple wanted to celebrate the day with their friends and family so we created a space for them to enjoy the special day together.

We were so pleased to be able to be back to the Gerrard's cross car show that was on today. It is so important to us that we are a part of our community and this was a lovely opportunity for the team to meet some new people and they had a fantastic time at the event.

The people living with us love to bake so today we were making lemon tarts which were then enjoyed by the whole home this afternoon with afternoon tea.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Summer Fete. The event was so much fun for everyone and we had such an amazing time with everyone and we hope that you guys did too.

Having our own cafe at Water Royd allows us to create a different social space for the people living with us. It was so enjoyable to host a coffee morning which was enjoyed by all. The cakes were also a big hit with everyone.

Extra hydration in these warm days is so important so we got creative and made shapes out of our watermelon to celebrate watermelon day.

People living with us love the outdoors and so we got out playing table top games outside in the sunshine and enjoyed some refreshments.

Nicola, one of our lifestyle co-ordinators has designed this usherette costume and hat with the help of residents and relatives and will be taking out sweets and refreshments during our movie afternoon today. One of our residents even painted the box earlier in the week in preparation!

We are delighted to have received our new Just Bowl kit, which is already bringing a lot of delight and smiles, as well as some friendly competition into our home.

We had a music session today in the garden under the gazebo in the shade with the residents being engaged and really enjoying it. It sounded so good that even some of the staff joined in with us.

Belvoir Vale Choir practice is such a lovely time of singing and laughter, even our residents are giving the guitar a go! Watch out for our concert in September. We are building a choir at Belvoir Vale that sing well known favourite old time songs.

Our residents tuned in to watch the lionesses roar to victory on Sunday night. They enjoyed a few beverages in the cinema whilst cheering the team on!

After successfully planting vegetables, our first batch of beetroot was ready to pick for 2022. Our residents helped out ensuring enough was dug up ready to give to our kitchen to use for the residents of the home #homegrown

Our residents were treated to a cheese and wine evening here in the home. A selection of fancy wines and food was available for taste testing and approval with our lovely lifestyle team.

The people living with us had a great day out visiting our beautiful sunflower field. We enjoyed walking around and admiring all the beautiful sunflowers, and we even brought some with us to the Home. It’s amazing seeing our Residents enjoying our trips.

We celebrated "Yorkshire Day" at the home by creating some bunting personalised for each person. We also looked at some old books of Yorkshire to talk all about it.

The people living with us had a great time celebrating 'world emoji day' and making some great emojis and even creating their own new ones.

We had a visit from our lovely singer Alan turner, Alan was in the XFactor and even went to Simon Cowells house in Barbados in 2008. It is a great pleasure to have him visit us regularly and we all look forward to him coming.

Two people who live with us enjoyed a stroll around the grounds today in the sun. It is so lovely to have so much land for people to explore. They had a pleasant afternoon finishing it all off with refreshments and a nice chat.

At our Gardening Club this week , we decided to do some weeding and put some new plants in. The people living with us wanted more colour in the garden and so today we did just that.

Some of the people living with us at Brunel enjoyed a flower arranging session recently. As well as buying some really colourful pretty flowers for the activity, we also picked some from our own gardens .

Our Carte D’or competition was fantastic. Chef Dom made some beautiful desserts using theses flavoursome mousses. Fingers crossed we win, but if not we enjoyed an afternoon of delicious flavours.

We celebrated International Cheese and Wine Day at Monread with a selection of our favourite wines, paired with the perfect combination of cheese and grapes - it went down a treat with the people living with us and proved to be a delicious afternoon.
