What is nursing care?

In a nursing home, care is provided around the clock by registered nurses, with a team of care assistants on hand to help. The majority of Maria Mallaband Care Group’s homes offer multiple care services and are well-equipped to support the ever-changing care needs of those individuals living with us.

With our teams trained to recognise and cater for these nursing needs, medical care - such as the administration of intravenous medicine, changing of dressings and continuous assessment and monitoring – is part of a standard day. Our homes are filled with people who are passionate about care, and who we trust to put the happiness and wellbeing of residents at the heart of everything they do.

At MMCG our nursing care can support people with more complex healthcare needs and those who require supervision, such as:

  • Severe physical disabilities
  • Dementia
  • Cancer
  • Terminal illnesses
  • Complex conditions

Our team is trained to identify symptoms and changes to residents’ conditions and supervise and monitor their health accordingly. This means that they can quickly interpret and provide care as necessary, providing round-the-clock nursing support for the individual, where needed.

"This is the second time my mum has been into this care home for respite. All the staff that work her have been extremely kind and caring to my mum and all the family. This has made my mum much calmer, whenever we go in the atmosphere is always nice. Thank you."

"This is an excellent care home where all the staff have time for me as a visitor and my wife for the care she receives. So it shows them how teamwork is achieved, by staff meetings and an expectation of what is expected from the staff. Well done."

What’s included in our nursing care services?

MMCG offers person-centred care based on an individual’s needs and wants, and so the level of nursing care looks different for every single resident. An important part of care home nursing is ensuring that prescribed medications are administered accurately and in a timely manner, and vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature are regularly checked.

Some of our residents might have chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory disorders, so our skilled staff can assist with managing these.

Personal care needs are always taken into consideration too, as the level of independence and mobility will vary from person to person. Our team offers assistance with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming and using the bathroom.

We consistently ensure the availability of qualified nursing support at our homes. There is at least one registered care home nurse available at all times, so skilled support and 24-hour medical care are always on hand.

Life in our nursing care homes

We want to make sure that each and every one of our residents is given equal opportunities to enjoy their interests and hobbies. Our More...lifestyle activities are tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, as not everyone will be able to take part in every activity – 1-1 activities in their bedrooms might be more appropriate, or social events in a smaller group. It’s important that every individual feels happy, included and fulfilled in their home, and that their wellbeing needs are met.

Good nutrition and tasty food are fundamental parts of living well, and through understanding likes, dislikes and preferences, our talented chefs can carefully curate menu choices that feel homely and familiar. We believe every meal should be ‘a hug on a plate’ supporting wellbeing through comfort food while ensuring they’re receiving the highest level of nutrition and hydration. Wider members of our care and hospitality teams offer special nurse care for people who may need assistance with mealtimes, always making sure a dining experience is never rushed.

Our naturally caring, compassionate team always creates a welcoming atmosphere, and we pride ourselves on the quality and variety of our facilities and services.

FAQs

What is the difference between nursing care and residential care?

Nursing care is for individuals who require round-the-clock care, and assistance with things such as the administration of medicines, dressing changes, and continuous assessment and monitoring.

MMCG’s homes that offer nursing care always have at least one qualified and registered nurse on site, with care assistants on-hand to help.

Both residential and nursing care offer a safe living environment and a comfortable home which supports opportunities for regular activities and socialising. However residential care is better suited for those who do not require high levels of care.

Why is nursing care so important?

Nursing care is imperative to ensure that those with more complex needs can live fulfilled and happy lives. Nursing homes are specially equipped to manage the nursing needs of those requiring 24-hour care, not just those requiring elderly nursing care, whilst also providing a stable and welcoming environment for individuals to live in.
