Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Anyone for cocktails?? Last night we held a Cocktail Tasting Event at Chartwell Manor. Our guests were treated to tasters of Franky's signature cocktails and were given a score card to rate each one...trouble was they were all so good...we couldn't decide!

It's Hospice Week this week and in appreciation for the incredible work our local hospice,

Last Friday the team at Chartwell Manor supported the Breast Cancer Awareness Day...Wear it Pink. This charity is very close to our hearts as one of our team is still going through it.

Diane was treated to a mini pamper session at Chartwell Manor Spa and had a full manicure. Diane used to love going to the beauticians to have her nails painted – we are so lucky to have such a beautiful spa for our residents to use.

As the weather was glorious some of people living us wanted to get out into the sunshine so we visited the local park. We played badminton and ball games and spent quality time and lovely conversation with refreshments.

Heading out to the beach it so lovely and for the people living with us somewhere that they love to visit, so we got into minibus and headed to the coast. It was such a lovely day and we had to have an ice cream before we went back.

One of the people living with us had a fantastic time getting out to the local shop with our carer Louise. He got to buy himself lots of goodies including his favourite drink Pepsi Max. It was such a beautiful day to take a stroll.

Our residents recently enjoyed a visit from some birds of prey. Some were even brave enough to hold them and stroke them. The visit brought a lot of pleasure to everyone. The sun was shining it was such a lovely afternoon.

We very much enjoy our coffee mornings and it’s now a weekly occurrence where we go out and enjoy a nice coffee and a chat watching the world go by. There are some strong friendships groups within our Home and we understand the importance of getting out and about in our groups of friends 😊

Being apart of the community is important and we have been so lucky to be invited to visit Dorking library with the music community team. The residents have enjoyed dancing and drawing activities as well as reading sessions which has been thoroughly enjoyed by the people taking part.

We are hugely thankful to the emergency services that are working so hard in our community and we wanted to do something to show them our gratitude. We arranged a takeaway breakfast with tea and coffee for them to pop in and get at the home.

Today we had our regular entertainer in for a sing along, our residents love singing along to all the songs from through out their lives.

Our residents were so thrilled to have a visit from a therapy pony from ‘dinky ponies’ called Poppy. Poppy started her visit in the garden and then went through the home visiting people on her way which was so lovely. Both poppy the pony and our residents loved one another’s company.

Some ladies that are living with us wanted to get some new shoes and of course we wanted to make that happen for them. We popped off in our transport to the local town.

Being able to see and hold animals again is so lovely. The people living with us all really enjoy interacting with animals so we organised a visit from a petting zoo. Everyone loved holding and hearing interesting facts about all the different animals.

In honour of the Queen we watched a documentary about her life and had a cream tea while looking through books and photos of her and hearing poems about her.

A huge thank you to Tim for carrying out our first Sunday service here at Lace Hill Manor. Tim was joined by friends of the community along with our residents over the weekend to take part in the service.

Our "More Movement" classes are scheduled every week into our lifestyle programme. They provide our residents important time to focus on movements and exercises to support mobility and strength within care plans.

We are pleased to have introduced here at Lace Hill Manor the Motitech Virtual Bike which provides our residents the chance to virtually explore the world whilst pedalling or using hand movements to guide them through the city streets.

We are continuing with our reflections after sudden passing of our beloved Queen, Elizabeth II. We created some floral displays for the home and others enjoyed doing some colouring whilst watching the news and talking about memories they have of the Queen.

We had all just enjoyed our exercise class when the residents all said that they would like a game of football so we got the ball out and enjoyed a kick about. It was such fun and everyone had a good giggle.

We were all deeply saddened at the home to hear of the loss of Her Majesty the Queen and wanted to do something to pay our respects. We have been painting autumn leaves in red, white and blue so that we can make a wreath to lay in respect of our late queen on Monday.

Everyone at the home wanted an opportunity to celebrate the recent CQC inspection where the home acquired a good score.
The home was decorated with an Hawaiian theme, staff and residents enjoyed a party with a BBQ, Music and games. It was a lovely afternoon for all.

We love an opportunity in the home to celebrate a national food or drink day and today is Chocolate milkshake day so we must have chocolate milkshake... so yummy. Everyone really enjoyed them.

Keeping up to date with the latest in the news and current affairs is really important to people living with us. Everyone was keen to make a guess on who would be our new Prime Minister. We all got together to watch the announcement.

It was National Hot Dog day on Saturday so our residents very much enjoyed a hot dog supper. The people living with us got to choose their perfect hot dog topping too, onions, mustard, tomato ketchup or a mixture of all three.

Residents have enjoyed making Victorian peg dolls. There wasn't a sound during this activity; they were all totally engaged. They were so pleased with the results and so proud of their dolls.

The feedback from the people living with us and their friends and family members is important, and we wanted to give them opportunity to create their own autumn/winter menu.

At this weeks art class, residents learned the technique of applying textures and light and dark shades to background colour as the base for their paintings. They then had to learn brush technique for the flowers and mixing paints.

On Saturday 20th August 2022 Parkview House held a Coffee Afternoon in aid of MacMillan Cancer support.

The residents of Manorhey Care Centre visited the J Parker's Garden Centre in the afternoon.

They enjoyed all the different plants, colours and smells.

One of the residents comment on how amazed she was with all different shades of green.

On photography day, some of Manorhey residents went to a nearby farm.

They were indulged with the amazing view, horses, birds and flowers around.

They took pictures of their surroundings. It was a pleasant afternoon.

For one of this week's morning, our residents had a free hand painting session.

They decide to draw the first thing that come to their mind.

Some draw animals, even wrote the noises that those same animals do.

We are thrilled to be able to show the community our recent CQC Good score from our recent inspection on our new banner outside of the home.

Taking advantage of the good weather again this afternoon we went on a walk through our local park, then strolled around the local pet shop having a look at all the animals and the tropical fish on display.

Water painting went down a treat this week, everyone gave it a go and was quite taken aback what beautiful pictures were created without having to even use paint. It was such a therapeutic activity that was enjoyed by all.

Our summer BBQ was a lovely event. It was such a pleasure to welcome back family and friends to share this with us and see lots of smiles all around.

We recently went on a lovely trip to Greendale Farm, looked at all animals, did some shopping in the farm shop and finished off with a well earned cream tea. All had a lovely afternoon.
