Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

At Riverview the amazing local community continues to support us all. Just when you're thinking that you could do with a snack and a cup of tea these fabulous gifts arrive at the front door. They went down a treat so thank you to the thoughtful person/people who sent this lovely gift.

Supporting The Community

The Big Challenge was completed with miles left to spare at Kents Hill Care Home last week.

The residents, staff, relatives and local community all came together to reach the target of 786miles for Alzheimer's Research.

Today we enjoyed some fresh berries and talked about fond memories of picking berries when they were younger. They talked about sneakily eating berries when they were meant to collect a whole basket full, and what they made with the berries once they were picked.

All residents and staff were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Prince Phillip. The residents were keen to share their stories and condolences by writing letters to the Royal Family.

As the recent Spring weather has been so sunny and mild the people who live and work at Brunel House have been making the most of the beautiful sheltered gardens. Louisa, one of our lovely hostess team took a stroll with Roy and John.

Enjoying The Garden

At Brunel House we are continuing to our trips to the local area, keeping to Covid restrictions. Our last trip was to Quarry Hill. It was a beautiful clear spring day and the views of the famous Box tunnel were stunning. We are extremely lucky to have this on our doorstep.

The residents have loved being able to get out in the garden with the lovely weather lately. One resident in particular has thoroughly enjoyed helping the staff with planting new flowers and placement of the planters. It's so good to see the residents outside enjoying the garden.

We always enjoy supporting our local hospice, KEMP, who partnered with Wildjac Home Grown Distillery, based in the Wyre Forest to being a fantastic gin tasting experience to the homes of many.

Those living at The Wharf Care Home have been enjoying the sunshine, planting sunflowers. Whose will grow the tallest is going to get very competitive whilst all good fun!. For those not outside we took the sunflowers to them. Sunflowers bringing happiness inside and out.

Our tuck shop here at Bowerfield Court is everyone's favourite. Fully stocked with all sorts of treats from old school chocolate bars, traditional biscuits and retro sweets to crisps and fizzy drinks.

We celebrated Scrabble Day last Tuesday. Alfred Mosher Butts, inventor of Scrabble was born on 13th April, so what better excuse to remember him and this iconic board game than to hold a Scrabble competition.

We had a beautiful day today reminiscing about the past and all the things we did growing up using products they recognise and books with pictures from big events from the past, this was a benefit for everyone involved.

With our new digital TV's and their finest voices the residents took to singing some of their favourite tunes. It was fantastic to have so many join in and applaud each other after their renditions.

St George's Day preparations are well under way here at Bowerfield Court. We have painted and assembled our very own way dragon marionettes and practised using them ready for our planned puppet show.

We had great fun with our blown up bunny ears and hoops over the Easter period.

We had a great time searching for the Easter Eggs we all shared and everyone enjoyed a chocolate egg.

A lovely morning of puzzles, music and fun for residents and staff at Hope Green. We'll definitely be doing this activity together again soon as it was a great success.

Today the residents created some beautiful bouquets doing some flower arranging. They picked which vase they wanted to use first, then selected which flowers to use. Some residents used scissors to cut the stems and others asked for help.

Our residents enjoyed a game of scrabble. We have some very good players, the highest score on our last game was 144. We also enjoy arts and crafts, displaying our works along the corridors.

Dominoes is a suitable game the elderly and adults with learning disabilities can play and thoroughly enjoy. Dominoes can also be used for simple matching and sorting activities for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s and is a great way to boost ones wo

We talked about 5 things today to help promote positive well being. I asked the residents to name the following: something that makes you happy, something that makes you smile, something that you like to do, something that makes you laugh and something that makes you feel safe.

Gwen won the most games on Monday, she really enjoyed playing. Dorothy won today for the most won games. All winners are recorded and at the end of the month prizes are given out, all residents love this.

Spring has sprung at Kings Court and residents have been having fun making daffodils as part of the regular arts and craft session.

The festival of Holi was celebrated at Kings Court recently. The dining room was decorated with lots of artwork made by the people who live at Kings Court. The staff team dressed in traditional dress and brought a variety of Indian foods for tasting. There was lots of Holi music and dancing.

We had a great St Patrick's Day here at Clarendon Court, highlight was a special Irish karaoke, some good voices amongst us.

A very busy Good Friday party, lots of different activities on hand from bunny racing to eggstafactor singing to making Easter bonnets. What a great Easter we had this year.

Bowerfield House have enjoyed a pampering morning while listening to some relaxation music, our gentlemen really enjoyed themselves and was feeling calm and relaxed for the rest of the day, boys love a pamper too.

Many of the people who live at Abingdon Court are green fingered and have very fond memories of tending to their gardens and allotments back at their homes. With the weather looking less bleak we decided it was time to put on our garden gloves, grab our trowels, and get planting!

The people who live at Abingdon Court all have different physical abilities but we always find common ground through exercise. From the choice of music, to the simplicity of the moves, to how we deliver the classes - we really want to make sure our exercise sessions provide satisfaction for all.

Work has begun on the herb and vegetable patch for Princess Lodge. It's still early days but there is plenty of potting and planting happening. Tomatoes, courgettes, and cucumber are the first selection of vegetables to be planted with more to come.

This week we had a go at making muffins! To make it a little easier we used these 'ready to go' mixes in a bottle and just added the butter, egg and milk. Our lovely chef then baked them for us. Unfortunately the end results didn't last long enough to get pictures of...

The residents enjoyed their Easter eggs and all their table decorations, over the weekend they had entertainment on the TV from our lovely singer Kerry.

A big thank you from the team at Hope Green for the lovely Easter treats to say thank you for looking after their loved ones. These treats were thoroughly enjoyed by the team whilst on shift over the Easter weekend!

Residents and staff are ready for tomorrow's Grand National. They've picked their horses and are eager to discover who will be the winner of the last remaining Easter Egg. And they're off...

We had a big Easter Egg hunt around the garden, it was a beautiful day and it held out which we were thrilled about. All the eggs were found and enjoyed in the sun, it was a successful hunt.

The smiles we saw this day were amazing to see and the joy really did spread throughout the house which made it a lovely environment to be in.

Staff dressed up to bring some joy and games to the house, this really did boost morale. Lots of laughs all round.

A fun game of football broke out in the garden which residents would join in keeping them active. We had lots of fun.

Gardening day at Clarendon, today we have planted sunflower seeds in pots, we will then plant them in the garden when they have taken. A very productive day.

Music and games in the garden. It was a beautiful day, the sun shining bright and a very enjoyable game of card bingo! Kate, Terry and Mary laughed the whole afternoon. Harry in the meantime had a little visitor come to see him whilst he was reading his daily newspaper. This made us all smile.

Good hand eye coordination is a skill not everyone is blessed with, but at Parkview there are plenty of people who do. Very impressive ladies.

Over the last year, our local Morrisons supermarket has been extremely supportive of Parkview House. This was a chance for us to give a little love back in the form of an Easter basket for the staff. Andre Hebron - Morrisons Community Champion received the basket on behalf of his colleagues.

We had a lovely afternoon in Granby this week playing a variety of board games!

It encourages socialisation between staff and residents, as well as between residents who may not know each other very well.

This week we finished off our personality tree that is now being displayed in the memory Cafe in Rutland! Residents and staff worked together to create this bright and colourful display!
