Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

We are over the moon about our Easter competition win! Hope Green residents and staff not only had a great time over the Easter weekend celebrations but now also get the chance to celebrate again with a lovely prize of a Sharing Hamper and a certificate.

We finished off our 'Earth' themed month with a trip around the world. We paired up flags and capital cities with their respective countries and them looked for those countries on our inflatable globe.

We held an international jazz day on Friday and played some great jazz music and indulged in producing art, whether it was jazz related or just paint from the heart in the ambiance of the music. One of our residents excelled and really enjoyed producing a piece that any artist would be proud of.

Bank holiday Monday was our May Day Fair, lots of standard fairground games like Roll-a-coin, spin the wheel, disc drop, play your cards right and darts. Lots of prizes, lots of fun and most of all laughter and smiling faces. A good turnout supported by residents and staff alike.

Our residents had lots of fun making and decorating cupcakes. They particularly enjoyed tasting them afterwards.

Today our residents dined gastro pub style. one of the options was this delicious traditional toad in the hole served on a bed of bubble and squeak.

Bowerfield House has enjoyed a little artwork today. Our Willy Wonka tree is very special and unique, our buttons are made from sugar paste and stuck on with icing. This is so very safe if eaten and if you have a sweet tooth you can have a little nibble too.

Some of our residents have been treated to manicures, aromatherapy and hot cloth facials.

A few weeks ago the Bowerfield House team spent an afternoon contacting local bus stations to see if there was any old bus stop signage they could use to create a bus stop in Bowerfield House.

We have a very special addition to our flower collection here at Troutbeck Care Home. A double headed miniature daffodil grown by Muriel Allen. This one has put a smile on everyone's face.

We thought we would make it a special day as it is one of the big events of the year. All residents chose a name out of a hat and got a horse to win on. We were all very excited at the prospect of watching the race and we enjoyed food, wine and beer.

Washing and drying the pots is one of our residents favourite things to do, they especially enjoy it as they don't get chance to do house work. It gives them a sense of self work and they thoroughly enjoy it and working as a team. We also listened to music and sang as we worked.

One of our residents wanted to go for a walk and look around. We got wrapped up as it was a little chilly and off we went for some fresh air and to stretch our legs. We walked along the path and came upon a bridge where we could feed the ducks and enjoy the sunshine.

To celebrate National Textiles Day the residents added their own designs to a new blanket. The residents tried to thread the needle independently, sometimes needed a little assistance. They then began to move the needle through the weaves of wool and started up their own design.

We've had an amazing day, we had the Oscars at The Hawthorns. Kate, our activities coordinator has been absolutely amazing, she even made a short film for the residents to watch.

Superhero Day is here to remind people that superheroes can come in any age, shape or size and being one is more about valour of the heart than having actual super-powers. Everyone who works and lives at Parkview is a superhero and there are even photos to prove it.

Chef Joey put on a BBQ for residents and staff and included her famous macaroons for dessert, plus we had a visit from Jim and his ice cream van. Marianne provided the musical entertainment and fun was had in the sunshine.

Residents got together to create lovely bunting for our farewell party for our resident Jeanette who is retiring. They made a lovely contribution and was very pleased with the outcome. Well done guys!

Today we built and decorated bird feeders to hang in the garden. We enjoyed using paints and getting messy and we can't wait to see the birds eating from the feeders!

Jimmy joined us for our gardening club and enjoyed planting corn and tomato seeds in pots, then we planted flower seeds in the garden.

We recently welcomed Treb Almazan to our team here at Amber Court. Treb came here from the Philippines in January 2021 and has just completed his nurse training with our company and successfully passed his OSCE and is now a Registered Nurse.

Our residents at The Westbourne enjoyed themselves by decorating wooden bird houses with a selection of paints for them to choose from. As they painted, they talked about the colours, using associations such as yellow reminding them of the sunshine.

Residents enjoyed some exercises today that were chair based. They sat in a small group and followed our activities staff member. They said they felt fit and well and roaring with energy.

What a fab day we had making these scones. We had lots of fun and the residents really enjoyed getting hands on. We all enjoyed eating them with jam and lots of yummy clotted cream and washed down with a pot of tea, and a good natter about all the naughty foods.

Congratulations to Sam and Lauren. Sam was nominated for his leadership and overall level of expertise on the care floor. Lauren was nominated for behind the scenes, ensuring payroll, staffing and the home run's smoothly. Well deserved.

April Employee Of The Month

Our April 'Earth' themed activities have taken us out of this world. We have spent time looking at and discussing the different planets in our solar system and played a game where we tried to place all the planets in the correct order in relation to the sun.

Coffee and cake is always popular with our residents, add in some music and we have the recipe for a great afternoon.

On St George's Day we all sat in the garden. Charlotte and Colin decided to be patriotic to both their home countries.

This afternoon we played prize bingo in the Plaza. This was an activity enjoyed by all.

The ladies and the gents really enjoyed decorating the cakes today. The residents requested the cakes to be shared out between the units. Sherry, wine and hot beverages were served during the activity.

Eileen was a big help, laminating pictures they had coloured to make placemats for St George's Day. We had a lovely day where everyone enjoyed taking part in a quiz and we had a fish and chip lunch from the local chip shop.

Residents have really enjoyed making these pictures from egg boxes and we have them framed and hung in our lounge, there's lots of discussion going on as to what animals we do next for our picture gallery.

We had so much fun today decorating our trees for the last activity in this months theme Earth Month. We spoke about different trees and had a fun day with plenty of giggles. Our tree pictures are on display in the home.

What a great start in my new role as activities coordinator at Bowerfield House. I was over the moon to be a joint winner with our sister home Bowerfield Court for Regional Easter Competition joint category winner Best Activity 2021.

Celebrations for St George's Day at The Belvedere. Our residents had fun colouring in the St George's shield which we then used for our bunting decorations.

We may not be part of the EU anymore but our residents still enjoyed European Day. This morning we looked at different countries in Europe and what they are famous for, residents talked about the places they visited in Europe.

It is well known the incredible effect that the ocean has on our well-being - the sight, the sound, the smell.

It may not have been the brightest day, but it truly was a joy for those living at Kings Manor to venture out of the home and take a trip down to Sidmouth.

The Easter Bunny made an appearance at Kings Manor over the weekend, he brought all the people living at the home a lovely Easter Egg and much joy as he hopped around. The team at Kings Manor also got involved by dressing up, using hair chalks, and even used their vocals on the karaoke machine.

The people who live at Kings Manor love to make the floral arrangements that are used in our restaurants.

Spring is well on its way at Kings Manor Care Home, having our own gardener on staff allows for a very hands on approach to the development of the gardens and also to support anyone at the home who has a passion for gardening.

We are proud to welcome our PURRRFECT pets to Buckingham House. We have introduced some of these lifelike tabby cats for some of our residents to enjoy. The people who have one of the cats are enjoying the lifelike robotic felines who purr their way through the day.

We had a great St George's Day here at Clarendon, residents inside and outside the garden were reminiscing with music and songs. We had some great vocals with the mic from some of our residents.

Wyndham Hall laid down the gauntlet to our sister home Abingdon Court to grow the tallest sunflower. Planting started in earnest this week with the staff team joining forces with the people who live at Wyndham. Wish us luck and may the best sunflower win.

Congratulations to Bowerfield Court, joint winner of the best activity category in MMCG's Cheshire's region Easter competition. The team received a biscuit and a chocolate hamper to be enjoyed by staff and residents.

Buckingham House welcomed back the hairdresser with cheers and lots of smiles as she has been incredibly missed throughout the COVID-19 restrictions. Sometimes its the little things in life that can make a big difference and she definitely is a cut above the rest!

Walking down the corridor in the afternoon, it's no surprise to stumble across the "ITV Quizzing Hour", with the echoing of the voices of the likes of Bradley Walsh and Ben Shepard coming from people's rooms as they prove popular with lots of people who live here at Abingdon Court.

We were given a run for our money recently as we all placed our bets on our favourite horses on the Grand National. We clutched our betting strips, praying for a Gold Strike on the winning horse - leaving the unlucky losers red as rum.
