Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Residents are enjoying the return of tai chi with Morag from health and wellness via zoom. We so missed our Tai Chi during lockdown that we were delighted when Morag was able to do this via Zoom. Everyone had a fantastic time and were so happy to see Morag again.

We have had a very snowy week in February in Park Springs so we thought we'd have some fun in the snow. We were all extremely brave and went outside in the snow on Thursday 11th February and we had so much fun despite the cold, building our snowmen.

We have welcomed a new member of the team to our Oakland’s family, Mickey Sewell has been a chef in the Army for twenty five years before joining us at Oakland's.

We enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year at the home in February and our chefs put together a special menu including sweet n sour pork and stir fry chicken. The food was delicious as always and the residents thoroughly enjoyed it.

This month we were sent across an intriguing e-mail saying, ‘Last year I lost both my grandparents and over time came to regret not knowing them more as people. I regret not always listening to their stories, their pains, their hopes and their triumphs.

Both residents helped with our Valentines Celebrations, we decorated some vases and re-arranged our table decorations with some new red roses.

Today we have a very special birthday to celebrate, a 90th and very overwhelmed, grateful and happy chap who was thrilled with his balloon display, his gifts and all his cards and well wishes from his family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM!

We were honoured to have been sent valentine teddies from children of Sutton Cum Lound school, all with lovely messages on the back for our residents to enjoy.

Singing activities are always a popular request here, and one of our sessions involve a John McSweeney concert with on screen lyrics, advertised as 101 songs you know by heart, a great sing-a-long disc.

We had a craft session and some good attempts at making cards, even Valentine Cards...well done.

Today, 12th February, we celebrated 'Chinese New Year'. The dining room was decorated with lanterns and bunting and residents were treated to a fab Chinese meal, getting our taste buds going it was a huge success, smiles all round...and clean plates!

This is a picture of our monthly donation from Margaret Bradie community champion at Asda Falkirk. Margaret has been making monthly donations to the home for over 7 months now. Every month is different. This month we have asked for sketch pads and pencils for our new art class.

Residents really enjoyed our pizza making session today. Our residents made the pizza dough from scratch and chose their individual favourite toppings to complete the pizzas. Lots of chats and smiles.

Today we have thoroughly enjoyed our daily walk and fresh air in our garden this morning, the weather was pleasant enough to enjoy a chit chat on the bench. What a lovely morning, such a great feeling to be out!

The theme for February is 'Peace and Love' as we celebrate the hippy era. A fun atmosphere, as staff join in celebrating peace and love! Enjoyed by all our residents!

We have expanded our regular treat trolley to include more exotic fruits. Residents have a variety of options so they are in control of what the choose dependant on how they feel on the day and may be tempted to try something new.

The activities team kick started 2021 with the return of the virtual armchair cruise. An amazing all in one activity. Our most recent travel was to Greece where the activities team went that extra mile and dressed the part to provide the residents with the ultimate experience.

Valentines Day is almost upon us and our residents have been busy making memories and hearts!

Inspired by Sir Captain Tom Moore, memory boards have been lovingly made by residents and staff at Wyndham Hall, God Bless and Good Night Captain Tom.

Residents and Staff at Kents Hill Care Home are very grateful to the local Tesco at Kingston; Milton Keynes for their deliveries. Helen; the community champion delivers 3 boxes of goodies on a weekly basis to Kents Hill for everyone to enjoy, bringing a smile to many faces as she arrives.&n

This activity is about Valentine’s day, sunshine and being creative. Each resident has been given hearts to decorate in their own way.

We made hand paper flowers and hearts to decorate our visiting pod, it's bright and cheery and the residents love the finished result.

We had some beautiful flowers gifted from a relatives family, we decided to arrange them into some small wooden crates and they have brightened our home beautifully during the cold winter months.

We had a visit from a young boy and his mum who are local to Clarendon Court, he asked his mum if he could write to us and send some biscuits for them to give them a big smile on their faces. It is a lovely gesture and certainly brought lots of smiles.

The residents enjoyed taking part in The Big Garden Birdwatch. We placed feeders on residents windows and we made fat balls to hang on the trees. They enjoyed it so much that we did it again later on in the week. We have definitely attracted more wildlife to the garden already.

This month we have started a knitting club and it has gone down a treat! Residents at The Belvedere have really enjoyed getting involved, for some its been relighting an old hobby and some are learning from the beginning.

The last week the residents joined to the celebration of The National Storytelling Week.

The Westbourne is celebrating with theme of 'Love' this February and began with hippy fancy dress, colourful decorations and a morning of our favourite songs from The Beatles. 'All You Need Is Love' was a definite favourite song to get everyone up and dancing!

We here at Knights Court Nursing home are always ready & excited for a celebration of any kind, be it a birthday, wedding anniversary, or any other occasion Team Knights Court are always rearing to go!

A very popular activity here at Clarendon is a good quiz, 'who wants to be a millionaire' is favourite, and we have a good team with great knowledge, this week we worked our way up to the million pound question...and got it wrong, better luck next time.

Today here at Manorhey a lady continued with her passion of sewing and made little baby's dresses which is very cute alongside many other outfits and clothes she sometimes makes for herself.

We've spent the first week of February embracing our theme of 'Valentines, Love and Friendship'. We've created our 'one love' heart which is a large heart full of individual hearts that both residents and staff have painted.

Despite National Lockdown our activity team are still able to engage with residents in many ways, from being creative and crafty with feathers or just enjoying some tasty goodies.

Clarendon Court are embracing send a friend a card day on Saturday 7th February. We have had some e cards created and a little pocket hug to send to our friends and relatives to remind them we are thinking about them.

Despite national lockdown our activities team are still able to engage in individual activities with our residents - playing scrabble, creativity with feathers and completing jigsaws. Or just enjoying some goodies!

Team Wharf have joined Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest community campaign to get everyone moving more. Our residents are supporting our local district, Wyre Forest, in recording all the minutes that they spend moving when doing activities.

Betty loves exercise and is always on the go here at The Wharf!. So much so we're taking delivery of a treadmill so that Betty and our residents who love to get moving can get their daily workouts in whatever the weather!.

The last week, the residents could go in the garden to enjoy the beautiful view of the snow, also we had time to discover the foot prints of two of our "friends", two beautiful foxes that used to visit us from time to time and to make the first snowman of the season.
