Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

In support of the Alzheimer's society dementia cupcake day, today we had a lovely coffee morning with delicious cupcakes some of which were donated by a student from Poynton high school who during lockdown turned her passion for baking into a small business.

Today we updated our board, we changed it from spring to summer, we decorated it with beautiful flamingos, palm trees and ice lollies. Lets bring on summer. Residents enjoyed looking at all the pretty bright colours.

As part as the national nutrition and hydration week 2021, we at Manorhey enjoyed some healthy smoothies, made with our favourite fresh fruit. Residents got involved by chopping the fruit as part of the preparation for the smoothies.

We have been given some new CDs by a friend of Troutbeck Care Home and will enjoy listening to these later today. With eight CDs to choose from there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

A Friday afternoon was well spent decorating and sampling cupcakes. The chef very kindly, at short notice, whipped up a batch of scrummy cupcakes for our residents to decorate using fondant, icing, vanilla butter cream and chocolate icing as well as a variety of sprinkles.

Residents at Dussindale Park had a busy afternoon creating some beautiful flower arrangements. These stunning arrangements were they displayed around the home.

We have so many seeds now and can't wait to get sowing these flowers and vegetables over the next few weeks. We have been enjoying the sunshine over the past few weeks and hope this continues throughout summer.

Congratulations to Amber Court - May Regional Carnival competition category winner for the most creative event. Home Manager, Delma Dela Cruz, said staff and residents had a wonderful day and we are thrilled to have won a lovely sweet and biscuits hamper.

Residents at The Hawthorns have had lots of fun in the sun this week. We had refreshing drinks created by our ladies and individual paddling pools set up for everyone to cool down whilst relaxing.

Bowerfield House made awareness of the nutrition hydration week, we enjoyed the cool beverages and fresh fruit on the hydration station that are on display every day and topped up regular through out the day, we talked about how important it was to keep fluids up on a hot day .

Today we played volleyball and other exercise games. The residents enjoyed joining in with the different exercises, Gwen and Dorothy joined in and had refreshments to finish the day.

Eileen worked hard all weekend colouring and prepping the European flags for Euro 2021, ready for them to be displayed. The residents think they look great and they are a good talking point with everyone.

For Nutrition and Hydration Week we made fruit kebabs with a few added extras. These went down really well with both residents and staff being both refreshing and a little naughty with the drizzle of chocolate and marshmallow.

Jean is one of our new residents, she celebrated her 93rd birthday last week. She was thrilled with the cake and we all sang Happy Birthday to her.

Today at Manorhey we celebrated National Cupcake Day by making our very own cupcakes. We baked them in the morning and then enjoyed them in the afternoon with a cup of tea once we had decorated them. We can definitely say they went down a treat.

We couldn't believe the transformation of Our Albert the Veg Man. We are really grateful to our Administrator Kirsty's mum for the work she's put in to transform him.

HRH Queen's Birthday celebrations were well underway at Hope Green with a keen interest in Trooping The Colour. We loved the marching, the music and the whole display, which prompted us to look at past Royal celebrations.

You can't beat a little friendly competitiveness and some of the residents at Hope Green were being very competitive with their crown creations. Choosing jewels of all different colours, shapes and sizes. It was so lovely to see so much concentration on all the faces.

It's Hot Hot Hot - the arrival of hot weather at Hope Green brought some lovely surprises of ice lolly deliveries and iced lemonade. Always conscious of keeping hydrated, we were enjoying some refreshing treats together whilst chatting about our favourite types of summer holidays.

More of our residents got involved with our planting to grow the largest dwarf sunflower. Dorothy and Owen enjoyed the day, we were given seeds by Morrisons and thought it would be nice to make it into a competition.

We celebrated the Queen's official birthday, we had a wonderful afternoon. We had some facts about the Queen which the residents loved to read about and some lovely pictures of the Queen. I also had a face mask of the Queen which went down great.

Our residents had a lovely time celebrating the Queen's birthday with a strawberry and cream afternoon tea. We watched the trooping colours and took part in a regal quiz. The sun was shining and it was a truly lovely day.

Bowerfield House had a lovely morning designing our wall art of a football pitch with all the countries flags placed around the football pitch, it's displayed lovely in our lounge.

Cedar court residents enjoyed the outdoor entertainment on Thursday 10th June, a lovely afternoon with songs by our very talented entertainer Nathan, all the songs from the 50's and 60's, he was a huge hit!

Cedar Court have been approached by the Royal Surrey Hospital to knit blankets and wrist muffs for dementia patients. Our residents at Cedar Court were proud to take part and are busy knitting blankets and wrist muffs. Great work and an enjoyment by all.

Who doesn’t love ice cream & ice lollies eh? after all, it’s one of the world’s favourite desserts! With the Summer in full bloom, we at Knights Court raided the freezer and got out some delicious ice lollies and choc ice creams as a treat for our residents.

Our creative residents excelled again during a recent craft session, ceramic painting. The results were stunning and we are proud to showcase their work. A great time was had by all.

At Alexandra Court we celebrated the Queen's official birthday and National Gin and Tonic Day. Residents Gwen and Dorothy joined in and enjoyed the afternoon.

This is Kim Jenkins from Barnes Court. Kim started the programme right before the pandemic. Despite the obstacles due to her dedication she has managed to complete the Care Practitioner programme.

It's National Carers Week and here at Parkview House we have been showing our appreciation and celebrating carers near and far, valuing their input and impact that they make on peoples lives. We want you to know we love and appreciate you all.

Jean came and joined in the competition to grow the largest Sunflower. Jean is a new resident and she enjoyed being involved with the outside activities today. We finished off the day with ice creams and refreshments.

The residents and I spent the morning making our summer fruit salad which we all later enjoyed eating in the garden listening to some lovely music. We used a variety of fruits which we peeled, cut and grated into the salad.

Jane and I made homemade lemonade for the residents ready for our afternoon treat which we enjoyed with some delicious cake. We firstly made our base from water, sugar and honey, we then squeezed and grated our lemons and this was added to our base to create a lovely still lemonade.

While many who live with us remain modest when it comes to their hidden talents, several of our residents here are a dab hand with a paintbrush!

Everyone at Wyndham Hall enjoyed celebrating the Queen's 95th birthday in style with a fun filled afternoon including pass the parcel, royal themed quizzes and lots of laughs and smiles.

We are so delighted that we can have outside entertainment again, we can finally take advantage of this lovely weather. The residents were singing their hearts out, a few were dancing and the Pimm's was flowing, very refreshing.

Our residents have been busy potting bedding plants and planting seeds for our hanging baskets and pots. The baskets and pots are now in the garden and coming along nicely with the sunshine. The residents have been sat out enjoying looking and admiring the beautiful colours.

Our Albert the veg man was in a very sore state and needed some TLC, our Administrator Kirsty said her mum enjoyed painting and was willing to give him a makeover for us, we were really grateful for this and awaited the results with bated breath.

Although the weather has not been very friendly staff and residents at Birch Heath Lodge decided to bring the sunshine in the home. We enjoyed a Seaside Party with a Punch and Judy show and seaside inspired games.

At Bowerfield House we celebrated her majesty Queen Elizabeth's 95th birthday. Our residents wrote her a birthday card and Barry posted it in our own private post box. Special visit form HRH to Bowerfield House where Barry presented her his birthday card.

The purpose of World Turtle Day is to educate people about the things that they can do to protect the habitats of turtles and tortoises.

It was National Cheese Day recently, who could resist a cheese and wine afternoon? A wide range of cheeses were prepped by the Head Chef, coupled with a selection of biscuits and a glass of wine.

As well as trying lots of tasty Italian Food we also used a selection of fresh ingredients to top our pizza which we enjoyed for dinner that evening. Bellissima!

Celebrating National Italian Day

Some of the people who live at Princess Lodge decided to have some temporary tattoos on their arm. It was fun choosing their favourite designs.

Recently it was National Cheese Day, so we took our cheese tasting into the garden. We had to try a lot of cheeses to decide on our favourites and of course cheese needs ports and grapes, it would be rude not to.

Margaret is very artistic and did a wonderful job designing and making paper flowers. These stunning blooms have been displayed around the home and they look beautiful and bright.

Residents had a great time as they started to share stories of their laundry days as child. It's amazing how simple acts promote such strong memories.
