Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

It was national lemonade day this week and we wanted to give the people living with us a chance to try all different types of lemonades. We wanted to know which were favourite and the kitchen staff and team were happy to be on hand to listen to the feedback.

Over the weekend we held a special event at Kents Hill Care Home and we planted a tree in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee!

We were delighted to be the Easter cake winner in week 2 at the home when our wonderful kitchen team created this award winning cake for the competition. Our residents created the display for the cake to sit amongst.

We were delighted when Deputy Provost Tom Castle came to plant the Queen’s Jubilee tree at Parksprings in the garden. We had a piper and a buffet afterwards for the residents to enjoy. We chose a Platinum orange tree for the Queens platinum celebrations as we thought this fit in brill

Our Chef Scott has done an amazing job of our Easter Cake this year which we sent in for the regional competition. It tasted delicious.

We had a visit from the Easter bunny in April who came to deliver all of the Easter eggs for the residents at the home. Our Easter bunny even met some school children and was featured in the local publication “In Your Area”.

Thorntree Mews is definitely feeling the love. Our relatives are amazing .We received this lovely donation of chocolate for all the staff as a Thank you for looking after our residents so well.

We had a busy Easter at the home with arts and crafts, baking and a beautiful Easter Sunday buffet. We also enjoyed some entertainment at the home today to get us into the Easter spirit and had a lovely singalong.

More fun at Willowdene In April when we enjoyed afternoon tea for the Queens 96th birthday we had a sing a long and a quiz about Royalty with some hilarious answers from the residents. We had such a great day and hoped the Queen had as much fun as we did.

We’ve planted a cherry tree for the Queens Platinum Jubilee 2022.

We were delighted that John Wilkinson, who is the husband of one of our residents, said it was an absolute honour to do this for us.

The residents are always telling us how much they miss their pets, so we have a new resident in the home. Angus, a soft pet which the residents are able to cuddle and pet whenever they want. They have a lovely visit from Angus in April and can’t wait for when the pet therapy dogs are

Our residents enjoy working on a crossword together. One of their favourites is the Yorkshire Post crossword puzzle. A couple of weeks ago they decided to tackle the YP giant crossword. We may have bitten off more than we can chew - we’re still working on it!

Arts and Crafts

We have been making a St George's Day Dragon at the home in April. Peggy did a good job of pretending she was terrified by our clearly ferocious paper mache winged reptile. The residents thoroughly enjoyed putting this together and the fun they had afterwards.

There was lots of Easter activity in the home this year. We started with arts and crafts and making our own bonnets and then on Easter Sunday one of the team dressed up as the Easter bunny and delivered our eggs for us. We had a lovely buffet in the afternoon with some party games with

Easter arrived at the home and for Easter Sunday during arts and crafts in the upcoming week our residents created Easter bonnets to wear on Easter Sunday. We think they did a terrific job of them.

The Croft bar opened in April and we were delighted when a friend of the home, Mark, came into the home with a wonderful new sign for the bar he had created. Mark said “it was for a great cause and he wanted to help”. Thank you so much Mark.

Joy and Jade have been putting their Oomph exercises into practice today with our residents on Oak. They played 60’s and 70’s music starting off gently before finishing with a bit of Tina Turner.

We are delighted to share with you our Decision Tree which our Dementia Ambassador, Meghan at Corinthian House has created.

The decision tree enables our residents, families and friends in the decisions that we make about the home.

A massive thank you to these lovely ladies Annette and Natalie from the local Sainsburys supermarket for their donation of eggs for our lovely residents at Belmont in April. They were delighted to receive the Easter Eggs and appreciated being thought of by the local community.

In April we celebrated the Queen’s 96th birthday at Belmont House. We had a huge party at the home with flags, birthday cake and some music whilst we reminisced about our memories of the Queen, the family weddings and street parties and where the sad goodbye of Prince Phillip.

Over Easter we made some Easter bonnets at Astor Court and each resident decided on the design they wanted to create and then made the bonnet by using the supplies we had in house. We think they did a terrific job.

Our chef Christine took some time out to help our lifestyle Coordinator and residents to make a fruit cake, we made enough mixture for cupcakes and a huge sponge. There was lots of involvement from our residents and staff, lots of laughs and flour everywhere.

We are really making the most of all of the different activities on our interactive table, as there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Tea parties were enjoyed by everyone for the Queens birthday. Residents enjoyed singing the national anthem and waving their flags proudly.

In observation of the International Tea Day, we went to the famous Blackpool Tower. Three of our residents spent their afternoon on the Ballroom Hall. Good old days were reminisced when the dancers swayed on the dance floor.

One of our residents enjoyed a trip to St Clements Church in Urmston for Sunday Mass. Her religion is very important to her and we think it is good for people to be able to keep their interests and hobbies.

We had a lovely time celebrating the Queens birthday in the sunshine, our residents enjoyed ice cream treats with music and games.

During last week the residents enjoyed a morning of pampering.

Yesterday we did some planting of seeds for the residents to watch grow.

The residents joined the baking club this morning and prepared a delicious chocolate Mousse.

The lovely Tia volunteered to bring our residents some cheer and stress relief. She spent the day and she loved visiting as much as our residents loved spending time with her. Everyone was sorry to see her go but she will be back tail wagging to spread her own brand of happiness very soon!

We are so excited at Clarendon Court that at long last we can welcome families in for our first post Covid Residents/Relatives meeting. We are all ready to welcome everyone with cake and wine. Here's to the first of many get togethers!
