Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Platinum Punch and Royal Spritz were available from our Jubilee Cocktail Bar alongside a lovely Royal Quiz. Some residents were very competitive whilst others just soaked up the atmosphere, as there was something for everyone. Cupcakes added to a scrumptious surprise!

The manager of Hope Green spent time alongside residents over the Jubilee holidays and helped to create a beautiful Tree of Celebration.

Our jubilee celebrations were off to a cracking start, we watched the trooping of the guard and had a real laugh making crowns. We spent the day reminiscing and remembering celebrations over the years.

The Jubilee Photo Booth at our very own London Telephone Box brought lots of flag waving and smiles as we gathered to celebrate the life of our Queen.

Relatives were invited to share the day with the residents as we planted our Jubilee tree and we provided live entertainment along with a lovely buffet. We had games and painting and we gave everyone a plant that they took home with them to plant in their garden.

We were delighted to welcome our local MP Fleur Anderson to unveil the official plaque for our beautiful bottlebrush tree, planted to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

We were busy getting ready for the Platinum Jubilee. Our entry is decorated in tribute to the queen and her notable life. From facts about the commonwealth, to hobbies and baby photos we were excited for the celebration to begin.

This year Nurse’s Day happened to fall during National Donut week so our residents had a wonderful time decorating donuts for our wonderful nurses. Not only was it fun but they were definitely as tasty as they looked!

Chef Allan found himself on TV last month as the National Technical Officer for British Taekwondo, this was at the European Tae championships 2022 Manchester.

His family are very proud of all his achievements as are we here at Howgate House.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at The Westbourne with lots of lovely tasty treats enjoyed by all.

The Platinum Jubilee party was in full swing at The Wharf. The bubbles were flowing for our families and loved ones with a sumptuous buffet that just kept on giving!. Everyone had a fabulous time, the feedback has been truly heartwarming and we just can't wait to be able to do it all

We've had a sensational time celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with those living with us, families, loved ones, our fabulous teams and entertainment. It has been a beautiful time to welcome so many visitors and to see the wondrous expressions of joy all around!.

We have celebrated the Queens Jubilee with an amazing entertainer at the home who sang a variety of songs for the people living with us. There were food, fun and laughter throughout the home as a buffet and refreshments were enjoyed in the dining room.

We have decorated the reception to our care home making it fit for a Queen. The people living at the home, the visitors and the staff all really loved the Royal Welcome.

The people living with us at Gateford really enjoyed getting the flowers ready for the Jubilee celebrations. They flowers were themed in the royal colours and look beautiful around the home.

The people living with us at Dussindale Park Care Home were so happy to have a visit from the Guinea Pigs. We are looking forward to them visiting again soon.

We had a special workshop come in today for the first time. They asked us to paint all different types of flowers to make a collage in the outline of The Queen. We think that it looks fantastic and we have placed it next to our balloon display.

The people living at The Hawthorns wanted to have a trip out and decided that they would like to go bowling. We have made four trips to the bowling alley each time with different residents to make that everyone who wanted to go could go.

The residents enjoyed making chocolate rice crispy cakes, they were all served to the residents with a lovely afternoon tea.

In the afternoon, our residents played dominoes against us, our resident won the match.

There was a lot of excitement at Hope Green this week as our own sweet shop was placed within our home. Residents enjoyed short walks together to choose their favourite sweets and chocolates and it was great to hear conversations of childhood treats.

For this months regional tea room competition and with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations around the corner, Birth Heath Lodge decided to show our patriotism by creating a London inspired Tea room.

Residents, staff and families, joined together in a Fundraising Coffee Morning and Afternoon BBQ, a whole day of celebrations to raise money for Dementia UK and Alzheimer's Society.

We raised the Amazing amount of £580.

Jubilee Preparation

On crafty Thursday we were painting rocks for the lovely garden outside great fun was had by all 😀☀️

At Ashfield we have started a new activity, juggling classes. This took place after watching the Greatest Showman movie 🍿😀😀💕

It was a wine themed day for us at The Hawthorns as we celebrated National Wine Week. We talk about our favourite wines, about how wines were made all around the world and then finished with some drawing of wine bottles. It was really enjoyed by the people who took part.

The people living at the home have their own gardening club which they very much enjoy. They have been creating some beautiful arrangements for everyone at the home to enjoy.

We have a walking club at the home and we quite often venture out over the common for a little walk. This week on our walk we had a lovely surprise as we were greeted with some animals and a choir that we sat and listened to. Such a lovely extra treat for the group.

The Queen has asked people from all organisations to plant a tree in her honour for the Jubilee and the people at Buckingham House Care Home were really excited to get involved.

We had the lovely mini mobile zoo call and see at the home which was so exciting. The afternoon was a hit with everyone and as it was glorious day, we sat outside to see the animals that has been brought along. We got to see and hold a bearded dragon, a rabbit, a corn snake and a skunk.

Over the last few weeks the people at our home have used paints, stickers, glitter and tissue paper to create the most beautiful, colourful flowers. They have cut them out and put them together to form a big flower for the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

We are in full swing with our preparation for the Queens upcoming Jubilee. There is much excitement amongst the people living with us. We are currently working on a big display using flowers painted by the people at the home.

Our lovely residents decided on life size guests for a welcoming display. After a lot of messy fun their guards came to life!

New Snack Stations have arrived at Hope Green. With the importance of keeping everyone in our home hydrated a priority, new snack stations have arrived for our residents to enjoy. They're proving to be very popular, and residents have commented that they love the choices that are provided.

Platinum Jubilee decorations are filling our home at Hope Green and are extending to the gardens to give our visitors a Royal Welcome. Residents and staff have been busy creating in the craft club, and also out in the gardens with ribbons, bunting and bows.

We were visited by a local ice cream van yesterday, nothing beats an ice cream on a very sunny day! We all enjoyed our fabulous ice cream cones, some with sauce and some with sprinkles.

Yesterday morning we had lots of different ball games including Basket ball and bowling.

The arrival of the warm weather has got us all thinking about the additional time we are now spending outdoors and so we all decided to get busy and add some new colour into the garden.

We planted our herb garden this morning but also combined it with a sensory activity. Before we planted our herbs we had a little smelling and taste game, our residents got to smell our herbs and have a little taste before they guessed what they were.

We are so excited to be welcoming our entertainer Tony Boyle and our wonderful kitchen staff are planning the most fantastic afternoon tea to celebrate the platinum jubilee

Our residents love to cook so we had a challenge last week and made homemade pasta and a vegetarian sauce for vegetarian week, great fun was had by all and the results were delicious!

We are pleased to let everyone know that two of Amber Court’s family members are nominated on the 8th Annual Maria Mallaband & Countrywide Care Homes Care Awards 2022. James Nicdao is one of the shortlisted in Lifestyle Pioneer category and Delma Dela Cruz in Manager of the Year category.

We love painting and drawing at Clarendon Court and just look at the fantastic artwork created by our very own Jean. She is far too shy and modest to have her picture taken but is very happy to share her beautiful artwork with everyone.

Every floor enjoyed celebrating Cinco De Mayo last week. We enjoyed watching the festival on the television and dancing away to the music whilst using our instruments to make some music. It was good fun to celebrate something different and explore different cultures.
