Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

We had some fun with the old games at the home this month as well as learning new technology. We played games of hoopla, tin can alley and then an afternoon of games on the tablet (squash the spider). The residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were so good at squashing the spider

We enjoyed a lovely fish supper from our local fish and chip shop in January as a treat. Every Friday at the home we enjoy Fish and Chips but this Friday we received chips from our favourite local shop. The residents had such a lovely time, eating chips out of the paper and reminiscing

We always enjoyed going to our tea club but with COVID and the cold winter days we decided to start our own weekly tea club at the home. Our residents look forward to it each week and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with each other.

Rabbie Burns Night at the home is always something our residents enjoy, and this year was no different. We had a piper and an accordion player to entertain our residents and lots of singing and dancing before we sat down to a supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.

Rabbie Burns night in Scotland is always a wonderous night of celebrations at Parksprings. This year we wanted to do something a little extra special and filmed all of our wonderful residents reading the lines of a very famous song. There was amazing singing, poetry and reciting, Tartan

We had two 70th birthdays celebrations in January at Yohden for our Alan and Ann both celebrate their 70th birthday. We had a birthday party for them and they really enjoyed their special day.

There is lots of work happening at Rosedale at the moment in the Lodge which is undergoing a huge refurbishment project to open April time. Our very handy maintenance man, Steve, has been such a huge help.

We celebrated Bill and Daphne's 53rd wedding anniversary in February. We wish them all the love and for many more years to come. Happy Anniversary to you both.

We celebrated Burns Night at Rose Lodge with the traditional Haggis, neeps and tatties. We enjoyed some Scottish songs during the day, along with Scottish Shortbread and tales of We had a lovely morning joining in the Burns celebrations and our Haggis, neeps and tatties were enjoyed by all.

Chinese New Year celebrations at Garden Hill. We listened to traditional Chinese music while enjoying stir fry with spring rolls and prawn crackers with sweet chili dip.

We enjoyed our Burns night at the home and at the end of the night the piper performed in the garden for us. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the show. We decorated the home in Scottish flags and enjoyed Irn Bru and Scottish Shortbread biscuits.

We have had some new additions in the field next to us at Field View and our residents have been popping out to see them and feeding the horses. We are so lucky to be surrounded by such lovely greenery at the home.

The winter days may be cutting in but at Earsdon Grange we are still enjoying our usual activities but just inside the home. Our residents love a game of bowling so we set up the lounge as an indoor bowling alley. They really enjoyed the afternoon and celebrated their wins with aftern

We had great fun celebrating the Chinese New Year "the year of the tiger", we sampled some traditional Chinese dishes including , chow mein, chilli beef, sweet and sour, spring rolls, prawn toast and crackers.

'Kung Hei Fat Choy' we have had a fabulous day participating in the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Some super delicious meals were prepared by Chef Mitchell to mark the occasion.

The team at Cedar Court love to get dressed up to entertain the people living at the home with their “Glee” style singing concerts. For Burns Night, they donned Scottish dress and produced an inspired program that featured a concert as well as some traditional Scottish refreshments.

The residents created beautiful flower arrangements that were displayed all around Allingham House, adding a splash of colour in our home. It was the perfect opportunity to reminisce with our residents about their favourite flowers and flower arrangements made for specials occasions.

We had an afternoon tea here at The Hawthorns, our residents really enjoyed this, they also asked if we could do it again.

On Sunday we made a lovely flower arrangement for one of the residents special Birthday, it turned out very nice.

It was International flower day today and Annette, Ann, Eleanor and I enjoyed arranging some lovely flowers to put around the home.

Ladies and gents enjoy a meal out at one of their favourite restaurants. The time went so fast as we laughed and chatted amongst ourselves when we realised we had been sat there for 4 hours. Time really does fly when you are having fun.

Residents were given the choice to write a personal biography about their lives or choose a famous person. The laptops were out for use and some spent considerable time discovering the lives of their idols. Rock Hudson, Mother Teresa, Shirley Bassey and Roy Orbison to name a few.

Residents spent an afternoon still drawing. All designs were beautifully presented with bright bold colours and these masterpieces have been displayed around the home.

In preparation for last weekend’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, we have been busy creating our own birds in readiness .

A selection of wine and cheese from around the world - what more could you want.!

Over 25 of the people living with us joined the party and gave their critiques. It was a most enjoyable time and all of us are very much looking forward to the next soiree.

The excitement is buzzing as all the new furniture and fittings are arriving. With the curtains and bedding complimenting the feature walls this brings a whole new feeling of freshness to the unit. The smell of new wood and carpet with the brightness all through.

Craft Club is a great way for our residents to meet together, catch up on conversations, and get creative. Preparing blue and white bunting in readiness for our Burns Night celebrations and choosing pictures of Scotland which were meaningful to us was so much fun.

We celebrated "Burns night" in true Scottish Style this week, first we had a traditional burns night supper with both meat and vegetarian haggis accompanied with neeps ,tatties and of course washed down with iron bru.

Bowerfield House had such a wonderful day celebrating Burns Day. Robert Burns was a famous poet and we printed some of his most famous poems, it was lovely to read them.

What a fantastic day! We celebrated National Chocolate Day with no problems, it went down very well with a pot of tea.

We had a lovely time taking part in " adopt a bear "day. Our residents each chose a bear, kindly donated to us, we had fun making adoption certificates and choosing funny names.

A wonderful day of celebrations included personalised activity packs, where residents chose to make bunting or colouring thistles and flags and of course our residents were up dancing together, enjoying the vibrancy of Scottish music.

Today our hairdresser has been and our lovely residents have enjoyed a pamper in the hair salon. They were all really happy and relaxed during their pamper.

Some of our ladies had fun yesterday afternoon getting messy in our splatter and paint session. Our residents listened to Opera whilst they painted and those who took part thoroughly enjoyed it.

New Years Resolutions

We started the year by launching our Gardening Club here in Amber Court, it was participated by our residents and staff. Joan and Jimmy planted tomatoes, lettuce, mint herbs and spring onions. We are all looking forward to harvest these vegetables soon.

Last Friday we played Bingo, our residents loved this activity. Some of them needed a little bit of help, when one of the residents won , they could not wait to play another game. As a result of this we have decided to have Bingo once a week!

We had a special trip down memory lane with a residents interesting history in shoe design. She showed us all her fantastic art work and recalled so many stories from sketching in Milan to working in a local factory. She was so proud of her achievements and we were honoured to hear them.

What a way to celebrate Burns Night. One of our lovely members of staff provided traditional Scottish day and night wear for men. Including a sporran, a sgian dubh, shoes and an amazing kilt. The residents loved exploring them. We listened to Bagpipes and we enjoyed some Highland dancing.
