Wise Words from our Residents

This month we were sent across an intriguing e-mail saying, ‘Last year I lost both my grandparents and over time came to regret not knowing them more as people. I regret not always listening to their stories, their pains, their hopes and their triumphs. All the things that made them who they are, I missed. Since COVID has arrived many more people have lost their loved ones, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and like me, grandparents. I want to try and capture some of these joys, regrets and wisdom before these beautifully unique libraries of experience, memory and joy are lost to us.’ We were given three main questions which were, what has been your greatest joy in life? What has been your greatest regret in life? What words of wisdom would you pass on to the younger generation? After reading this e-mail we also felt how important it is to ask these questions. Taking this into consideration we carried out some one to ones asking our residents these. In relation to wise words our home has for future generations, we would like to share some with you. ‘to be happy, make the best of what you have in life and to not moan.’ ‘Always be honest’, ‘to take more notice’, ‘always do what you want to do’, ‘to enjoy life’ and ‘not be blinded by things which are superficial’. I chose to share these with you, as these are important especially in the circumstances, we all find ourselves in now. So, take a moment to read and reflect on the wise words of wisdom this wonderful generation of people have to say.
