We love a good knees up here at Abingdon Court, so it was no surprise that we had to arrange a party to celebrate St Georges Day! Throughout the week, we enjoyed themed quizzes to remind ourselves why we celebrate St Georges day, learning new facts and being reminded of old ones.

Buckingham House welcomed back the hairdresser with cheers and lots of smiles as she has been incredibly missed throughout the COVID-19 restrictions. Sometimes its the little things in life that can make a big difference and she definitely is a cut above the rest! The smile on the residents faces when they saw the results were worth their weight in gold. 

Walking down the corridor in the afternoon, it's no surprise to stumble across the "ITV Quizzing Hour", with the echoing of the voices of the likes of Bradley Walsh and Ben Shepard coming from people's rooms as they prove popular with lots of people who live here at Abingdon Court. Knowing this, we thought we would travel back to the 80s and relive a classic TV game show; Play Your Cards Right.

We were given a run for our money recently as we all placed our bets on our favourite horses on the Grand National. We clutched our betting strips, praying for a Gold Strike on the winning horse - leaving the unlucky losers red as rum. 

The more competitive of the group could be mistaken for Men o' War in desperation for that lucky prize. Prizes consisted of chocolates or a (Sea) biscuit, as bets today were on the house and just for fun. That's enough horsing around for one day...

St George's Day was celebrated with pride at Buckingham House. A day to celebrate the country's heritage. 

Congratulations to Michael Craig who celebrated 25 years as chef at Birch Heath Lodge. With a massive thank you from the Birch Heath team and MMCG for 25 years fantastic service, we look forward to the next 25. Mike is an excellent chef who prepares fabulous meals with a cheery smile which makes him popular with everyone. 

What a great day we had here at Bowerfield Court! We enjoyed a puppet show where everyone got to see our very own handmade puppets. We followed this with a virtual themed concert where our bunting was up, our disco lights were on and our flags were waved. All this was finished off with an amazing buffet which went down a treat. 

April's activities theme here at Bowerfield Court is 'Earth' so recognising this year's Earth Day was important to us. We painted seashells and created a canvas of the earth along with discussing ways in which we all could care for our planet and how important it is for everyone to play their part with things like recycling. We also headed outside to pick up any litter that had collected in our flower beds and around our home whilst jointly planting bulbs and sowing seeds to benefit the soil, insects and animals. 

Everyone at Bowerfield Court had a good old knees up for St George's Day. We enjoyed donning our hats and glasses, waving our flags and dancing to the music at our themed concert. Afterwards we enjoyed a fabulous buffet. 

We bought some bubble blowing machines for our residents as part of our ongoing sensory programme. We use them in residents rooms, in lounge areas, outside, as well as parties. Christopher has his own machine for his room and one of his favourite things is to catch the bubbles. This is Christopher enjoying the sunshine catching bubbles. He giggles so much and that makes us so happy.
