Bridge House Care Home nominated at Surrey Care Awards 2019

They’ve done it Again !

Staff at Bridge House Care Home, Elstead are celebrating their fantastic achievement of being nominated for the 2nd year running

at this year's Surrey Care Awards, in not just one, but two categories! .

Kim Doody, Deputy Manager has a well deserved individual nomination in the Front Line Leader category, whilst the home is competing for the prestigious Care Provider of the Year award.

The gala Awards ceremony takes place at Epsom Downs Racecourse  on Friday 22nd November - so fingers crossed.

 

Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Rose Lodge Care Home on Carers Way, Cobblers Lane, Newton Aycliffe recently completed a fundraising walk in support of the Alzheimer's society.  The staff at Rose Lodge met outside the home and walked along the 5 mile Great Aycliffe walk to raise money as part of the Alzheimer's memory walk.  They all had such a lovely day which took a few hours and they even met up with one of our residents part way through with her son which was a lovely surprise to the walkers.

Tickled Pink Event at Willowdene

The staff and residents of Willowdene Care Home of Lizards Lane, Sedgefield were tickled pink on Friday 18th October after holding their annual fundraising event to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness month.  They had a lovely day dressing up in pink to support the charity and raised £95 through donations from the staff to go to the charity. Angela Penman, Activities Coordinator said “Our staff and residents love to have a bit of fun at the home and it gives the residents of Willowdene a real sense of giving something back whilst raising money for a worthy cause”.

 

Sunday Concert from Chika Robertson of the Music Mind Sprite Trust

Cedar Court had another wonderful Sunday concert from Chika Robertson of the Music Mind Sprite Trust and her Royal Academy YAMA’s.

Residents, families and staff had a wonderful time joining in for BBC world music week.

Chika Robertson established the Trust to enrich people’s lives through music and is the Trust’s CEO and Professor of Violin, The Royal Academy of Music. Chika and her Young Artist Musical Ambassadors (YAMA’s) were joined by a professional accompanist Elizabeth whose late Mother was one of our resident's at Cedar Court Care Home.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Buckingham House

We hosted a very special event at Buckingham House  on “Wear it Pink Day.  Breast Cancer Now is a charity that is close of the hearts of many of the staff and families at Buckingham House.  The team threw themselves into the day dressing in pink and there were plenty of cakes and goodies available throughout the day.

All proceeds will be donated to “Wear it Pink”

 

100th Birthday Celebrations at Rose Lodge Care Home

Rose Lodge Care Home in Newton Aycliffe was delighted to join Elsie Malcolm and her family celebrate her 100th Birthday in September. Elsie was born on in September 1919 in Coxhoe to Alfred Johnson and Mary Jane (Jinny) Galloway. At the age of 14 Elsie went into service at Durham City until she was 21 years old.  

Elsie married Jack Malcolm in 1939 and Jack was a miner at Bowburn Colliery. Elsie went on to have 2 children Joan and John and is now the grandmother of 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. We hope you had a wonderful birthday tea at Rose Lodge Elsie.

Dementia Bus at The Westbourne

The Dementia Bus arrived at The Westbourne Care Home on Wednesday 2nd October. The training bus is kitted out with specialist equipment, offering staff and the Mayor of East Cheshire - Barry Burkhill and Mayoress Mrs Burkhill the chance to encounter first-hand what it might be like to live with dementia.

Participants are asked to carry out day-to-day tasks and activities within a simulated environment of the virtual sensory tour.

Dancing and Singing at The Westbourne

Actress and Singer Jessica dropped into The Westbourne to entertain residents and staff with songs from The Lion King and ending with a rousing rendition of Cherrie Baby from the Jersey Boys. Residents enjoyed dancing and singing along. 

 

New Sensory Room

The Belvedere in Alderley Edge have recently completed their indoor sensory garden room. Angela the activities lady at The Belvedere created this area especially for our dementia residents. Angela thoroughly enjoyed creating the area and is pleased that the residents are enjoying the indoor sensory garden 

Manager Ursa Virag said " We are really pleased with the results and our residents are really enjoying experiencing the bright colours, soft lights and relaxing sounds."

 

Zoo Lab visits Croft House

Zoo lab visited Croft House in September. Animals included a snake, a large snail, a bearded dragon, a spider, 2 rats and a cockroach. Everyone had a fabulous afternoon and are already looking forward to their next visit.
