Pancake Day

We had a lovely pancake day at the home.  Staff and residents enjoyed lots of lovely toppings and the residents even had a turn at tossing their own pancakes.  We had such fun.

Try a Brew

We wanted to try something a little different during our Tea tasting sessions and sourced a selection of herbal teas for the residents to try.  The residents then scored points out of 10 to which they preferred.  The best loved teas have been purchased and added on our tea trollies to enjoy at any moment . Such a small change but a positive change for the residents.

Tai Chi

Residents are enjoying the return of tai chi with Morag from health and wellness via zoom.  We so missed our Tai Chi during lockdown that we were delighted when Morag was able to do this via Zoom.  Everyone had a fantastic time and were so happy to see Morag again.

Snowmen at Park Springs

We have had a very snowy week in February in Park Springs so we thought we'd have some fun in the snow.  We were all extremely brave and went outside in the snow on Thursday 11th February and we had so much fun despite the cold, building our snowmen.  We then moved them to the front of the home so that everyone could see them and it brought lots of smiles.

Valentines Day at Oaklands

We have welcomed a new member of the team to our Oakland’s family, Mickey Sewell has been a chef in the Army for twenty five years before joining us at Oakland's.

On Valentine’s Day we brought a bit of fine dining to our Oakland’s residents. Everyone dressed in either red or pink for the event.

The first course for the residents to enjoy was Chicken Roulade with straw carrots, ribbon courgettes and duchess potatoes.

The second course for dessert was a chocolate fondant pudding with baileys ice cream.

Chinese New Year

We enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year at the home in February and our chefs put together a special menu including sweet n sour pork and stir fry chicken.  The food was delicious as always and the residents thoroughly enjoyed it.

Musical Memories

They say music is the soul of life and here at The Moors Care Centre we have been having a wonderful time joining online Zoom sessions with North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre.  The Music Therapy Centre have been providing these free of charge to the home and they have certainly brightened up the day.  We have been singing and playing musical instruments to well known favourite songs.  We have had such a lovely time.

Celebrating Different Cultures

This month we have been celebrating different cultures. We have gathered facts, quizzes, games and art ideas for the residents. This is so they can discuss, reminisce and think about different cultures. Whilst remembering those recognised national days that are celebrated around the world.  Earlier this month we celebrated Australia Day. We looked at some interesting facts about the country and watched some amazing footage of the beautiful views and scenery. We had a multiple-choice quiz and finally did some aboriginal art that Australians are known for.

Wise Words from our Residents

This month we were sent across an intriguing e-mail saying, ‘Last year I lost both my grandparents and over time came to regret not knowing them more as people. I regret not always listening to their stories, their pains, their hopes and their triumphs. All the things that made them who they are, I missed. Since COVID has arrived many more people have lost their loved ones, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and like me, grandparents.

School Messages

We were honoured to have been sent valentine teddies from children of Sutton Cum Lound school, all with lovely messages on the back for our residents to enjoy.

It was a very thoughtful and kind gesture from the children and very much appreciated by staff and residents. Sending a big thank you to all the teachers and pupils.
