Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Book club is going from strength to strength and everyone seems to be really interested in the next few chapters to discover what has happened! Our local mobile library have sourced a huge selection of suggested group reading titles and we look forward to reading them in the very near future.

We had a lovely catch up recently with a dear friend. One of our activities team recently moved to Dubai and we called her on Skype. She loved catching up with everyone at The Hawthorns and we were thrilled to bring her up to date with how we are all doing.

We had a lovely trip last week with our residents. We took advantage of the weather and made our way to our local park making a stop for a cup of tea and yummy cake at our local deli.

This year Knights Court celebrated Diwali in style! Diwali or Deepavali is one of the biggest and auspicious festivals celebrated by Hindus all around the globe.

Buckingham House was filled with poppies for Remembrance Day 2021. Everyone who lives with us played their part in remembering those we have lost.

A taste testing session this morning for National Bread Day. It went down well with all!

Man of the match Kody Bentley. Another amazing performance from Pogmoor under 11's captain and the whole team, winning 4-2. Midfielder Ali also need a special mention, he was like a machine. They are now through to the semi-finals of the Cup next Sunday. Keep it up boys.

Today we are celebrating our head chef (Douglas)'s 50th birthday. Happy Birthday from Residents & Staff at Ashfield Court.

This week has been really exciting our residents have been really busy. They have enjoyed a good pamper getting facials, manicures and have enlightened their day by listening to the power of music. Our lovely residents got physical in get fit exercise, where we did head to toe exercises.

Bowerfield House worked hard on getting the home ready for Remembrance Sunday. We decorated the house inside and out, painted pebbles red and black and made a piece of art for the garden.

Two of the favourite events we enjoy at Brunel is the evening pub quiz. Lots of people who live at Brunel like to participate and all enjoy a social chat over a drink once the quiz ended.

In preparation of Remembrance Day, those living with us at Wyndham Hall enjoyed crafting poppies and spending time talking about the different roles they did during the war.

To celebrate Halloween, many of the people living with us at River View decorated pumpkins with spooky faces and coloured in some themed pictures that we displayed across the home for everyone to enjoy.

Staff at River View Care Home took a moment to quietly remember and pay tribute to all of those who have served in the armed services.

At Knights Court we had our own ‘Spooktacular’ Halloween party with the people living with us along with staff dressing up for the occasion.

We celebrated Halloween at Knights Court by trying our hand at carving Pumpkins and here is the fruit of our efforts 🎃’

We had such a fantastic trip to Flowerland in Bourne End last week. Our residents who came on the with us each chose a beautiful pot plant to give to their loved ones. They were amazed at the variety of colours and varieties of plants on display.

Our lovely residents who live with us at Buckingham House were treated to an exciting trip to Fulmer Riding Therapy School. They were introduced to Freddie one of the horses at the school and were taught how to care for him.

For this years Armistice Day everyone at Birch Heath Lodge participated in two minutes silence to pay respect for all those who served in the armed forces.

It was a touching moment to see everyone come together and show their admiration and support.

Food tasting at Hope Green was a real fun activity session and we're looking forward to doing more of these as our residents and staff are absolutely loving them. Seasonal apples were sliced and tasted along with chocolate, golden syrup, sprinkles and sunflower seeds.

Our lovely residents enjoyed our get fit exercise in the afternoon, this included full body exercises with Pom Poms. This activity was really enjoyed, one lady quoted “we needed this” after the exercises they enjoyed a nice cup of tea.

A morning of reflection on Remembrance Day was a great way to celebrate peace and what that looks like in our world today. Residents and staff enjoyed poppy crafts and putting together displays of remembrance through the home.

There's nothing like a brisk winter walk to blow the autumn cobwebs away, especially when you know there is a hot chocolate waiting for you when you get back.

Our residents loved designing our remembrance day displays, they knitted poppies for the display in reception and coloured and cut out the poppies for our main display in the residents lounge.

Today is Remembrance Day. Everyone in Amber Court take a moment of time to give honour and respect to all the people who have been part of World War. We’ve done this by taking time of silence, activities and artworks with the residents to commemorate our heroes.

Today a group of residents made some dough sculptures. They added scents to them to engage the senses and added parts of leaves and plants to decorate them and to make a link to nature at a time of year when it’s not so easy to get outside.

Our lovely residents enjoyed bingo afternoon in the lounge, they enjoyed 3 games of bingo, we played for a line and then a full house on both games, everyone was really happy to be involved and was concentrating on the numbers so they didn't miss any, warm and cold drinks of their choice were ser

Some of our lovely residents enjoyed one to one activity's, we had a lovely chat and giggle, during the one to one our residents had a photo shoot. One of our ladies in the photographs enjoyed a nice facial and was really happy and quoted "it is nice to get a pamper"

Firework Rockets!! Our lovely residents made some fantastic firework rockets today using a card roll, pipe cleaners, star stickers and a few other resources. They had such a giggle trying to peel and stick the stars down, the quote of the activity was "where's my star gone?

At Hope Green the residents enjoyed creating beautiful artwork for bonfire night, exploring the changing colours of magical scratch art to draw some spectacular fireworks.

The lovely people who live at The Hawthorns made some finger print painted poppies which we turned into a field of poppies to remember and honour those who fell whilst defending our freedoms and protecting our way of life. This is pride place when entering the home for everyone to see; staf

It was a most enjoyable afternoon at Ashmead for Peggy's 100th birthday. In addition to a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth 11 the home’s chef prepared a special birthday cake and staff and fellow residents helped celebrate the occasion by singing happy birthday to Peggy.

On Sugar Awareness Day, we chatted about sugar and its origin, we then played the game * how many teaspoons of sugar * in a number of food items.

What is Halloween without pumpkins? We set to work at Deepdene creating the most fantastic pumpkins. Its was so much fun.

The recent Halloween party at Deepdene was amazing. The staff team gave everyone living in the home their best Halloween catwalk show. There were prizes for the best dressed ghouls or witches with some well-deserved prizes.

On Bonfire night Guy Fawkes visited all of our residents who thought he was great. He even enjoyed a game of bingo and handed out prizes before he visited people in their rooms.

This year we held a masquerade ball for Halloween. Residents spent lots of time creating their masks and costumes prior to the day. There was live entertainment from Andy T, we all had an absolute blast.
