Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

The Lead Dietitian from St Georgie’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust brought her team to Ashmead Care Centre for a wonderful milkshake and exercise afternoon. Residents enjoyed seated exercises prior to making all form of favoured milkshakes from start to consumption.

Residents and staff joined together to celebrate Nurse's Day. It was the perfect opportunity to express our gratitude to our nurses for their caring and professional work delivered to our residents every day.

VE day is celebrated all over Europe every 8th May since 1945 to commemorate the end of the WWII in Europe. The residents and staff joined to the celebrations with a traditional VE Day party.

We had a singer visit our home earlier in the month, our residents had a great morning

Our very artistic residents creating their very own work of arts using buttons. We really love an afternoon of arts and crafts at Clarendon Court, always accompanied by cake and coffee of course!

On receiving the news of a tree for the Jubilee, our lovely residents were made up to hear of the two occasions coming together.

After a lot of consideration the residents opted for a colourful tree to brighten up their environment on this special occasion.

In painting club we tried out some new aquapaint canvasses, the residents loved the ‘magic’ of seeing what colours and patterns would appear with just a sweep of the brush, perfect for anyone to have a go. It made for a lovely calm afternoon of painting and conversation.

For Nurse Appreciation Day our lovely residents got involved making thank you cards with Calligraphy writing presented with a bouquet of flowers and a gift. Suggestions of cup cakes and a cuppa our residents promoted to add a bit of sweetness to our nurses day.

Bowerfield House had a great day celebrating National Nurses’ Day, we are very lucky to have some amazing nurse working at Bowerfield House. We celebrated by the residents signing a nurses card for our nurses thanking them for all the hard work they do.

Celebrating our wonderful nurses on International Nurses Day with Nozeco, themed cakes and a little goody bag of gratitude to say how much they are appreciated.

Live Music Returns to Hope Green - residents and staff welcomed a trio of musicians into the home to enjoy a toe tapping hand clapping afternoon of music. Neon hats, colourful percussion and props made this session complete as we danced and sang through the afternoon.

This month Birch Heath Lodge celebrated National Nurses Day. The afternoon held a performance from Mark Whitby, who sang and entertained us with some of our favourite songs.

Toasting our Queen after we have planted our commemorative tree, a cherry blossom, chosen by our Resident's committee. Accompanied by Helen our Deputy Manager and of course the Queen herself (well nearly!).

It's always great to celebrate together at Hope Green and earlier this month it was a member of staff passing a driving test! It's wonderful how friendships are formed between our staff and residents. It's important that we care about each other and we enjoy milestones regardless of our ages.

At Ashfield Court we enjoy many different activities such as, arts and crafts, music sessions, gardening and even fun exercise sessions.

The one thing myself and my colleagues have learned is how to get a giggle out of our residents. Low and behold crazy hair day never fails. From having wigs pinched to Bows borrowed our lovely lot always get involved. What a silly, wacky, day had by all

We enjoyed a wonderful visit from Kiddley Divy recently who entertained us all with songs from our favourite musicals. Everyone was able to join in with the fun, which along with singing included chair based dancing

We have been looking at photos of animals and holiday destinations the residents love reminiscing about holidays they have been on.

The lovely and talented Samantha Jones joined us and entertained with songs from the 40's. We all enjoyed singing along, flag waving and some of our residents volunteered to set the mood and take us back in time.

This month at Acorn House we have welcomed 2 students from Blackburn College for a 2 week placement, Seerat and Demi. They are both studying their Health and Social Care NVQ. They will be working alongside our Lifestyle Team to support our residents with communal activities.

We had a wonderful time making no bake cheesecakes. We had blueberry, strawberry and vanilla. Teamwork made for laughter as our residents worked together helping each other finish their tasks.

In the month of May, we celebrated Nita's birthday. Nita celebrated in style.

Earlier in the month, we had a music full of morning. This brought lots of smiles into our home!

We celebrated International Nurses Day in our lounge with people living with us and staff. Our fantastic nurses each got a certificate, bottle of wine and other gifts. Our amazing kitchen team created some Blue and White cup cakes, which tasted lovely.

The nurses at Kingsbury Court were surprised with a small party today to celebrate them and to say a huge thank you for all they do. It was so lovely to have been able to keep the secret from them until the day itself and treat them as they all do such a fantastic job for us.

Supporting peoples independence is something that we like to achieve at our home and it is different from person to person but no matter what the task, they all come with their own sense of accomplishment.

We wanted to do something special to celebrate the amazing nurses that we have at Buckingham House care home. We all met outside for some refreshments and the home manager gave each of our nurses a gift to thank them for all the incredible work that they do.

In honour of Florence Nightingale, we had a small gathering and celebration for our nurses at Cedar Court this afternoon. As a Registered General Nurse and also being our Regional Director, we also had our special guest, Petra join us for the same.

We had a the most wonderful day trip to Tropical Birdland in Desford, Leicestershire. Only a short drive from out home we all thoroughly enjoyed the walk around.

Pets really bring joy to the hearts of the people living with us at Water Royd Care home. Spending time with animals is so beneficial and something that we love happening here. Everyone enjoyed a nice visit from our little furry friend Luna, and his buddy.

We wanted to support The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

With the weather being so lovely and warm we wanted to get outside for a BBQ with the people living with us. There was much food, laughter and a very special guest that joined us.

Over 75 colourful make a wish balloons filled the sky over the Kents Hill, each with a special wish-tag attached from every Resident.

We were looking for new ideas for what we can sell out our upcoming spring fayre and we decided that we would try new activity. We got some scarfs and the people living with using the tie dye process created some beautiful and unique designs.

It was national lemonade day this week and we wanted to give the people living with us a chance to try all different types of lemonades. We wanted to know which were favourite and the kitchen staff and team were happy to be on hand to listen to the feedback.

Over the weekend we held a special event at Kents Hill Care Home and we planted a tree in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee!

We were delighted to be the Easter cake winner in week 2 at the home when our wonderful kitchen team created this award winning cake for the competition. Our residents created the display for the cake to sit amongst.

We were delighted when Deputy Provost Tom Castle came to plant the Queen’s Jubilee tree at Parksprings in the garden. We had a piper and a buffet afterwards for the residents to enjoy. We chose a Platinum orange tree for the Queens platinum celebrations as we thought this fit in brill

Our Chef Scott has done an amazing job of our Easter Cake this year which we sent in for the regional competition. It tasted delicious.

We had a visit from the Easter bunny in April who came to deliver all of the Easter eggs for the residents at the home. Our Easter bunny even met some school children and was featured in the local publication “In Your Area”.
