May Day at Allingham

May Day is a festival celebrated in England and all across Europe since ancient times. It marks the middle way between spring and summer equinox.

The residents joined to this festival in the traditional way. During the morning, they made different sizes Maypoles that later on were displayed all around as a decoration to celebrate this day.

During the afternoon we hold a May Day Afternoon Tea. It was the perfect opportunity for the residents to share memories and reminisce about the time when they used to dance around the Maypole wearing garlands and white dresses, while they were enjoying a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake.
