Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

World Book Day was celebrated in style at Brunel House with a Mad Hatters tea party. The staff team as usual were amazing dressing up as their favourite characters from books whilst the residents enjoyed reminiscing about their favourite childhood books.

The chicks are now six days old and growing fast! The residents are thoroughly enjoying their time with them and for some this is the first time that they have actually felt or held a chick. We are so pleased that we have been able to offer this unique experience.

Allingham House celebrated Red Nose Day with a Fundraising Coffee Morning. Staff from different departments collaborated baking delicious cupcakes, biscuits and chocolate brownies. Later on, Activities Staff sold them to raise money for Comic Relief.

Our sensory room here at Bowerfield Court offers a wide variety of sensory stimulation for our residents. The multi coloured lights are visually appealing and, coupled with the aroma of essential oils and music, help to create a relaxed and calm environment. Pamper sessions are also available.

This week at Highfield we decided to mix our celebration for Red Nose Day with baking! Most of our residents got involved and loved baking in preparation for Red Nose Day. We made a beautiful sponge cake which was delicious!

To prepare for St Patrick's day, we coloured in some themed pictures to make into bunting to decorate the home! It was great fun and showed off everyone's different tastes, and they looked fantastic when they were up!

Several members of staff at Ashmead Care Centre took time from their busy schedule to remember those lost during recent times to the Covid 19 virus.

Mary celebrated her 100th birthday, she had a lovely day with a long awaited visit from her sister.

We love our games activities in the home and we get competitive quick. As well as the usual domino's, bingo and exercise to music we love a game of bowling. We thought this was a great shot of one of our residents just before she got a strike.

We have celebrated Mothers/Mams/Mums with lots of conversations, some brought laughter and others tears, but it was so lovely to be able to provoke such good memories of our mums, those special ladies who made our childhood great.

One of our residents has a journal of her life and we talked about the places she has visited and the experiences she has had. She said that she has had a wonderful and exciting life when she was a young girl. She loved to dress up and enjoyed eating out with friend and traveling.

Last week was St Patrick Day and we here at Highfield enjoyed delicious Irish traditional snacks and stew, accompanied by some traditional Irish music. Everyone had a wonderful day followed by a green themed quiz in afternoon!

Residents at Bowerfield House have been enjoying lots of activities. Some of the residents favourites were flower arranging, pizza making and we celebrated Mother's Day and St Patrick's Day in style with our Irish queen Helena. It was a great week with lots of fun and laughter.

Since it was national foot spa day we thought we would catch the opportunity to pamper ourselves using the foot spa.

As part of our preparation for Mothering Sunday we held a morning of Decoupage which everyone really enjoyed. Preparation was key as we had to press and store our flowers four weeks prior to using them but the wait was worth it, our jars and vases looking stunning.

St Patrick's Day was celebrated at Brunel's regular luncheon club with a St. Patrick's Day themed menu.

Stanley, one of our activities team has been working with some of the residents who are less able to attend group events and activities within the home. He has taken a tablet to the residents in their rooms and they have begun to enjoy painting on the tablet. This has been a huge success.

We celebrated in style at Abingdon Court. The activities team of course were dressed to the nines in full on St Patrick's Day themed outfits whilst the rest of the staff team, never ones to miss out, made sure that they were wearing something green to join in with the fun.

Today at Manorhey residents and staff members celebrated St Patrick's Day. In the morning we had an Irish special virtual concert with all our favourite songs performed by one of our regular performers Debbie McCormick.

Mother's Day was a very special day at Allingham House , the residents could speak with their families by phones and videocalls meanwhile received cards and presents from them.

Everyone here at Bowerfield Court are looking forward to the run up to Easter. We have lots of activities planned, starting off today with a very special delivery. We currently have eight eggs in an incubator preparing to hatch.

Residents enjoyed making placemats for the tables on St Patrick's Day, a lot of work went into these and there were enough to go round for everyone. They looked great and really brightened up the tables.

Here at Highfield Care Home we were really excited to celebrate Mother’s Day! All the Mothers enjoyed many flowers and cards from their children and loved ones.

As it was Mother’s Day we thought we would celebrate with a wine and cheese party. All the residents were very excited as we had been making beautiful art work to display on this special occasion. Everyone enjoyed the day with singing and dancing.

Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.

We had a fish supper at The Belvedere this week. All residents enjoyed their dinner along with a glass of wine or a bottle of beer.

We are starting off our herb garden. The residents had lots of fun potting the seeds and a mindful to keep them watered.

Mothering Sunday at Manorhey was lovely, we enjoyed an afternoon tea with cakes, sandwiches and scones with cream and jam and tea served in china. All mums here and including Grandmas received beautiful cards, gifts and flowers which really did make their day special.

As part of our monthly visits to different countries we decided to go to Mexico. We decorated our home ready for a Mexico themed fun-filled day which we ended with a fiesta. We dressed in sombreros and ponchos and enjoyed tacos and nachos with cheese, salsa and sour cream dips.

To celebrate St David's Day we filled Riverview with daffodils and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. In the words of St David, "Be joyful, keep the faith and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do."

Abingdon's activities team Kirsty and Stanley have been busy preparing for Mother's Day. Stanley ensured that all those who wanted to were pampered and ready for Mother's Day, whilst all ladies received a gift to either celebrate them as a mother or to honour the special women in their lives.

Spring is almost with us but whilst we are waiting for the weather to warm up, we decided to create our own flower arrangements. Our residents chose their own colours and began to create these beautiful flowers. It was fiddly work but worth it when we saw the results.

We have a lot of talented people living at Wyndham Hall and the regular craft sessions are always a favourite.

Flower arranging is one of the favourite pastimes at Wyndham Hall. It's always a friendly and social group and the results are always beautiful.

Mother's Day was an absolute delight for our 'Mums' here at Wyndham Hall, flowers and cards galore and our residents loved every minute of the day.

Bowerfield House held a Mother's Day raffle between staff, residents and relatives to bring some cheers this Mother's Day. Sarah won our first prize and Megan won the second prize.

We had an amazing time at Cavendish Court Carnival Day. From hook a duck to the coconut shy, great fun was had by all.

A special day was held at Ashmead for International Women’s Day. All female residents were treated to wonderfully presented chocolate treats, whilst several of the staff dressed in traditional clothing for the residents to enjoy.

We had a film afternoon. The residents thoroughly enjoyed a film from their past and their theatre treats.

A wonderful day had by all at Kents Hill Care Home; flower arranging was one of the activities for Mothers Day. Some fantastic displays/ centre pieces to enjoy.

It's been a very busy month so far with birthdays, Mother's Day this Sunday and we're now preparing for St Patrick's Day, residents have been busy cutting out shamrocks to decorate our tree and making placemats for the table.
