What is respite care?

Caring for someone can be hugely rewarding, but it can also be highly demanding - both physically and mentally. Respite care exists to allow those who care for someone to rest, recharge and refocus, on a short-term basis.

Respite care plays a crucial role in supporting both caregivers and individuals in need of care, by promoting and improving the overall wellbeing of both parties. It allows the caregiver the chance to have a well-deserved break, with complete peace of mind that their loved one is receiving a high standard of care in a home-from-home environment. A short break in one of our homes offers so much more than care too – providing an opportunity to take a break from everyday life and routine, make new friends, and enjoy meaningful activities and even day trips.

At MMCG, when someone is taking a short-term break with us, we want to give that person the confidence and individual support they need to retain their independence with the view to returning home, though permanent care may be sometimes considered in the longer term.

Our homes are filled with people who are passionate about care, and who we trust to put the happiness and wellbeing of residents at the heart of everything they do.

"This is the second time my mum has been into this care home for respite. All the staff that work her have been extremely kind and caring to my mum and all the family. This has made my mum much calmer, whenever we go in the atmosphere is always nice. Thank you."

"The staff have treated my mother with dignity and compassion from day one. They are very caring and nothing is too much trouble. My mother is so happy now and has blossomed under their care."

"This is an excellent care home where all the staff have time for me as a visitor and my wife for the care she receives. So it shows them how teamwork is achieved, by staff meetings and an expectation of what is expected from the staff. Well done."

What options for respite care are available?

Whether it’s very short-term care to allow a caregiver to go on holiday or take a short break, or a slightly longer period of time if the caregiver has fallen ill or needs an extended break, our MMCG care homes offer a variety of care options to suit you and your loved one.

We offer advance respite breaks in our homes across the UK to enable caregivers to plan ahead and take a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities, with the confidence that their loved one is being supported during this time.

Through understanding an individual’s care needs and personal preferences our homes can offer the right level of care required during the timeframe of respite care – whether that’s specialist dementia care, nursing care or residential care – with the ability to book ahead, depending on the availability and capacity of the most local MMCG care home.

Life in our homes

Our More…lifestyle programme is designed to keep life full and varied, with lots to explore and enjoy. We bring people together through shared experiences - from coffee mornings and talks to afternoon teas and discussions - providing the opportunity for both guests and residents to socialise and enjoy our homes.

We also believe good food and nutrition can aid a person’s recovery, and that every meal served should be comforting and ‘a hug on a plate’. Even for the shortest of stays we seek to understand tastes and preferences so that our talented chefs can carefully curate menu choices.

We pride ourselves on providing warm welcomes in our homes and would love to offer a tour and discuss your short-term care needs with you.
