Feeding The Community
Residents at White Rose Lodge have been getting crafty with their caring by decorating bird houses and creating cereal bird feeders which we can put outside in our beautiful garden to help wildlife as part of our MMCG pledge “Feeding the Community”.
We thought it would be ideal to start by feeding our local wildlife during the harsh winter when food is scarcer for them.

New Years Resolutions
New Year new resolutions, both residents and WRL have decided to keep more active in this new year, WRL has created new daily exercise classes which are being trailed and will be a permanent feature from the next month’s activities regime, we do our best to keep our residents motivated and moving, New MIND / BODY and SOUL approach to activities will be a fantastic new highlight of the day.
Congratulations to the first class of 2022

Sleepout In York
Our wonderful activities coordinator Jane braved a night in the cold to raise much needed funds for a homeless youth charity in North Yorkshire. Jane said, “The home is warm and safe, and I am reminded in this cold January that many people find themselves without their own home and are far from safe and warm. On the 22nd of January I am doing a sleepout in York to raise funds for charities that aim to help those who need a home.” A fantastic result as the group raised £4,000 for the Charities that offer support to homeless youth in North Yorkshire.

Burns Night at The Moors
Whisky tasting, sea shanty and singing for burns night here at The Moors. We had a lovely day leading up to the Burns Day supper with haggis, neeps and tatties prepared by our fabulous Chef’s at the home and enjoyed cups of tea and Shortbread biscuits during the day.

New Year Wreath
An Oaklands resident skilfully crafted a New Year wreath in January to mark the turn of the year. She used fresh greenery from the Oakland’s gardens and some Christmas baubles. The result has been proudly displayed at the entrance to our home, it looks very impressive, and we are sure you will agree.

National Bird Watch at Oaklands
Residents recently spent an hour taking part in the National Bird Watch scheme, we had three residents watching from the lounge and three watching from their rooms. Our tally for the hour was two great tits, two blue tits, two female blackbirds, two male blackbirds, two starlings, three robins and a wood pigeon.

Movie Club at Manor Park
We enjoyed a movie afternoon in the Dementia unit in January. During 1-1 sessions we asked residents about their favourite movies and decided to start our own movie club. We booked the cinema room and put the movie on the big screen. The residents loved it, especially when part way through we came in with ice cream and popcorn for them to enjoy during the second half.

Playing On The Wii
We had a fantastic afternoon on the Wii, residents really enjoyed it. Ken seemed to have loved every minute of it. The other residents just wanted to watch and cheer Ken on. They were his biggest supporters.

Regional Hero Award
We were delighted when Jeanette, our wonderful Housekeeper here at Corinthian House won our first Regional Hero Award.
Jeanette works tirelessly to support residents within Corinthian House. She oversees the housekeeping and laundry team and supports in the kitchen. On Christmas Eve Jeanette supported the night shift by coming into care when a staff member called in sick at short notice. Jeanette is a pleasure to work with and does her job with an admirable amount of love, compassion, and kindness, she is an asset to the Corinthian House and Yorkshire regional team.
