Christmas Tree Competition
Residents at Skell Lodge in Ripon had a busy month making a Christmas tree out of recycled items for the Ripon winter wonderland tree competition. We spent many hours making caricatures of ourselves, looking at old photographs of what we used to look like and recreating them. The tree was displayed in Spa Gardens among many more entries and was seen by hundreds of people as they visited the event.
Christmas carols at White Rose Lodge from local schools
December brought with it a time for bringing people together and a feeling of warmth, joy and happiness. Over the course of December we were delighted to open our doors to students from local schools to sing carols for our residents. The students not only sang rehearsed carol songs and well known Christmas classics but also handed out Christmas cards and invited conversation by introducing themselves to residents. Some students had learned Christmas songs through Makaton and rehearsed dance actions to relate to the carols.
Elf Day At White Rose Lodge
On the 17th December we held a day to raise money for the Alzheimer's society by dressing up as elf’s for the day and participating in games with many treats to go around. We had guess the name of the elf teddy, pick a number to win a prize, there was a tombola and an ongoing raffle. This is for those who did not have a chance to buy a ticket on the day to be able to and for us to increase the amount raised for the Alzheimer's Society.

We started off the day with a Christmas Elf Quiz before the Foundation of Light came in for their weekly ball games activity with the residents. We then had choir practice and afternoon treats from the kitchen to end the day. We all had fun and the residents are looking forward to next year already.

Visit to The Cathedral in Ripon
The Cathedral in Ripon had kindly invited the residents from The Moors Care Centre to a number of concerts in November, on the 14th residents enjoyed a piano recital by Julia Hartmann. It was a very cold and wet day but a spectacular atmosphere in a breath-taking setting with poppies still covering parts of the cathedral, we were met by Loretta a volunteer that helps out in the home with church services and cathedral chatter. Loretta made us very welcome with a hot drink and showed us to our seats the recital was very much loved by the residents.
