Memory Boxes at Oaklands

This month at Oakland's we have continued with our memory boxes. Each resident has a memory box with their photo on and they can fill the box with different things that make them happy, from their memories. This may be pictures of their favourite sweets, books or comics. Coloured in pictures of their favourite toys or places to visit when they were young.

Hollywood Glamour Comes To Minster Grange

Minster Grange enjoyed a Hollywood-themed party this week. Every partygoer was transformed into a movie star of their choice and enjoyed the red-carpet treatment with a glass (or two) of “bubbly”.

Autumn Art at Oaklands

The Autumn season started on Tuesday 22nd September. The residents at Oaklands decided this would be a good day to dedicate to starting our Autumn projects. We decided to do some Autumnal pictures to hang on the walls around the home. We searched the internet for some autumn pictures and then printed them, cut them out and glued them to black card. The residents then designed their own pictures by adding fake autumn and glittery leaves.

Baking at Oaklands

 

Over the past few months, at Oaklands, we have concentrated on baking sweet treats but this week our residents decided that they would like to bake something savoury. Various recipes were considered and they all agreed on baking some sausage rolls. We decided what sort of pastry we should use and then what type of sausage meat to use.

Award Winner at Allingham House

Harpreet Kaur, receptionist at Allingham House was a recent winner in Maria Mallaband and Countrywide Care Home annual awards, as Hospitality Hero 2020. Through numerous votes, Harpreet was recognised as an asset to Allingham House, doing everything asked of her with a smile. Her dedication through the pandemic has meant that relatives.

Manorhey's Nursery

Manorhey Care Home are presently upgrading their dementia unit, to ensure our residents have an enriched experience in their daily lives. The most recent area completed is a nursery. the residents have enjoyed doll therapy so much, but now have a room, complete with a carriage pram, Moses crib and clothes whilst they can sit and nurse the dolls. The ladies in particular love the area and caring for their therapy doll. The gentleman are eagerly awaiting the sports bar completion.

Active Minds Artwork at Abingdon Court

Active minds have great resources which specialise in activities for the Elderly and those with Dementia.

The activities team have loved sharing these aqua paints and the residents have been amazed by their achievement. They are a winner in Abingdon Court.

 

Puzzles

One of our new regular activities is puzzle club! It gives people a chance to get together, socialise and work together to complete puzzles! We do have a lot of variations in the the puzzles that we have to enable all different abilities to be included and the part. 

Sun catchers

In Rutland we have enjoyed making suncatchers this week! The residents have really enjoyed making them and they have had so many compliments! They really brighten the place up and I look forward to adding many more to the collection.

Windchimes

Continuing with our goal to make the home as colourful and vibrant as possible, today we painted windchimes! When the weather is nicer again they will finish their journey by moving to the garden, but for now they are making the dining room look lovely!
