Abingdon Airlines now boarding to Canada!
As we enter the summer months, everybody is falling into that summer holiday feeling. With most of us unable to jet off anywhere any time soon, we opened up Abingdon Airlines and brought the holiday to our home! Boarding passes were delivered to people’s rooms, ready for them to board the flight to Canada later that afternoon. We feasted on pancakes with Canadas most famous maple syrup (plus other delicious toppings) whilst we watched videos which explored different areas of the Canadian landscape.

Vogue Archives
One of the ladies who lives with us was telling us all about her life working in the fashion sector throughout her youth and how she loved following the trends and seeing what new and innovative pieces were being developed by the big fashion houses. This inspired our Activities Coordinator, Stanley to dig through some Vogue editorial archives to share with her. She was excited to revisit these images and commented on how she noticed these old trends returning in the modern day.

Residents Meetings
Our regular residents meetings are key dates in the Deepdene calendar where people who live and work at the home get together to discuss important matters.
There are always plenty of refreshments available including drinks, fruit sticks and homemade scones with creams. The atmosphere is always just lovely.

Birthday Decorations
We have decorated the lounge ceiling this week with bunting all cut out by one of our residents, the residents painted beach nuts to hang amongst the bunting. We celebrated a birthday with a cake and our special 'birthday hat'.

Parachute In The Garden
Today the residents at Mary chapman court enjoyed some garden time with a parachute. We made it float like a butterfly then we made it a stormy sea. We had great fun and a little exercise too.

Live Entertainment In The Garden
Hope Green garden was filled with music and dancing in the sunshine with a wonderful visit from a talented local accordion player. It was delightful to see everyone getting involved whether that was tapping feet, clapping hands or dancing the waltz. We're really looking forward to his next visit in August.

Cupcake Decorating
Strawberries, raspberries and chocolate were chosen by residents at Hope Green as favourites for adding to buttercream and decorate some lovely vanilla cupcakes together. Individual flair and creations were wonderful to see, combined with the arrival of a well earned cup of tea too! Conversations turned to Wimbledon as we appreciated the strawberries and one of our residents told us all about her tennis playing days which was absolutely great. A lovely afternoon.

Saturday Salon
One of our very talented activities team started hairdressing on a Saturday during the lockdown whilst our usual hairdresser was unable to visit. The Saturday Salon proved to be so popular it carried on and continues to be a popular and busy event.

Out and About
At Deepdene we enjoy our regular visits within the local area, the park and then for coffee and a cake is one of the favourites.

Music Group
Today the residents at Mary Chapman started a new music group where we sang, danced and played our instruments. Watch this space, we may start our own rock band next!
