Ladies Day

The residents enjoyed many different activities to celebrate one of the most important days at the Grand National, Ladies Day. Staff and residents joined together to create beautiful hats that matched their own clothes, making them look even more elegant while they were enjoying their favourites snacks and drinks watching the races.

A delightful experience !!!

Plant A Tree for The Queens Jubilee Canopy

The sun shone and the gardens were looking beautifully decorated with bunting and flags as we spent the morning together celebrating this wonderful initiative. Residents and staff enjoyed scones with jam and cream with cups of tea whilst watching the tree being planted and the special commemorative plaque being put into place. Many marvelled at the years of service to our country by our Queen and had memories to share of Royal events that were special to them. We're looking forward to more events over the next few months to celebrate this special year for our Queen.

Grand National

The Grand National is the most famous of British Horse races. It was first run in 1839 and is a race over distance of 4 miles and 2 and a half furlongs. There are 30 jumps.

There will be prizes of chocolate for the first 5 in the race, alternative treats will be provided for people who cannot eat chocolate.

National Cheese Fondue Day

We celebrated National Cheese Fondue Day with a home made beer and cheddar fondue. Everyone enjoyed making and enjoying this 70's classic. It is wonderful how simply sharing good food brings people together, encouraging camaraderie and laughter.

Easter at Troutbeck

We have celebrated Easter at Troutbeck with Fun Games, Hymns, Crafts, Music, Hot cross buns, cakes and delicious chocolates.

We made our own Easter Bonnets and beautiful flowers from Tissue paper that we have used to decorate the Piano Lounge. Easter is such a special time for everyone, and allowed us to reminisce about our own family experiences. we talked about Holy week and made reference to bible stories that were taught in Sunday School which lots of our Residents remember fondly.

'Trip To Chocolate Land' Party

Our 'Trip To Chocolate Land' Party was enjoyed by all, they especially enjoyed all of the sweet treats we had on offer, from our chocolate fountain enjoyed with fresh fruit to our chocolate cakes. We watched clips of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and listened to some of the classic tunes. It was lovely to see everyone get involved from staff and residents and families! It really brought a smile to everyone's faces to see our Willy Wonka costumes.

Easter Cake

At Troutbeck we celebrated Easter with a Easter Bunny cake made by our lifestyle coordinator coordinator

Easter at Bowerfield House

Bowerfield House would love to wish everyone a very Happy Easter. We celebrated with dressing up in an Easter Hen outfit which made all residents giggle and every resident and staff member enjoyed an Easter Egg.

We decorated our dinning tables and set a lovely display in the reception, we had fun colouring in a table mat and polystyrene eggs and hung them on the display tree in reception.

Another great day full of fun and laughter at Bowerfield House.

A Week at Ashfield Court

Last week was so much fun at Ashfield Court. We have had the grand national which resulted in one of our residents winning some lovely biscuits! We didn't win the cake competition but we had such fun doing it. Then to finish the week off, 'remember when...' looking back at all the things we used to use and still do!

Health Watch Report

Acorn House are over the moon with the recent Health Watch report which followed after an unannounced visit, care home manager Cherise Homer-Beck said we are so happy with the report feed back and really pleased with some of the kind comments made to the health watch inspectors by staff, visitors and the people who live in our care home. One of the questions asked was "Would you recommend this care home to a close friend or family.”

Cherise and her team said the replies are so lovely, we hope you enjoy reading them as much as we have
