Macmillan Fundraiser at River View

September 24th the sun was shining as it was Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraiser Coffee Afternoon.

We had a fabulous raffle with gifts donated by River View and local businesses – thank you. Thank you to everyone who took part. We raised a cracking £152.00.

Our residents were our prize pullers making 12 people very happy winners.

Entertainer Brian was invited to join us with his guitar playing songs we could all sing along to. Many residents also joined in with some dancing.

New Games and Activities at Parkview

Big Parcel at the front door addressed to the Activities Organiser, what could it be?

Fabulous new games and activities for those that live here to use, so our wonderful activities organiser arranged a tester session, and they went down a storm.

Animal Charades!

To celebrate National Animal Day, we decided to play some animal themed games! We started with a round of Animal Bingo, using the 'Relish' resources which provide the picture boards and animal sound CD - the aim is to guess the sound the animal is making and mark it off of your bingo card when necessary. Many enjoyed this twist on the usual bingo.

Christchurch Service

We are fortunate enough to have an ongoing relationship with 'Christchurch Abingdon'. Before COVID-19 put us into lockdown, we had regular visits from the group who enjoyed meeting and greeting those who live here and putting on a short service with hymns, readings, and prayers. When we had to close our doors due to lockdown, Christchurch were excellent and sent us recorded services so we could keep offering this experience to those who like to attended - we were, and still are very grateful for this!

Planting Our Flowers

At Hope Green we spent two lovely mornings in the garden planting some flowers which had kindly been donated by a local supermarket. The residents enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air while getting stuck in and creating a number of wonderful pots, looking at the colourful flowers and patterns on the leaves. They can now be enjoyed for weeks to come on garden walks.

World Mental Heath Day

What a beautiful day we had here at The Belvedere Care Home. We celebrated World Mental Health Day and invited the wonderful Charlotte Kennedy to sing for us in the garden. Our residents had a great time and towards the end we were up having a good old boogie to We are Family. Days like this are incredibly important for our home and we are firm believers that music does feed the soul and this was definitely what happened.

Baking Scones

We do love a good bake here at The Belvedere Care Home and one of our favourite things to bake is Scones. We have our baking activity in the morning and then enjoy our yummy scones with with jam and clotted cream for afternoon tea. Sultanas are our usual filler but in this session our residents have decided to try something savoury for our next batch so look out for our for how we do with our homemade cheese scones next week.

National Fossil Day!

Today we went fossil crazy.  As well as watching the online opening of the Norwich Cathedral Diplodocus 'Dippy' Exhibition, we learnt plenty of interesting fossil facts,  played a Fossil Day word game and also coloured-in pictures of ancient sea fossils.

Family Fun Day Entertainment

As part of our Family Fun Day, we had some amazing entertainers lined up for all to enjoy. Firstly we were joined by Matt from Abingdon Music Centre. Matt has run some virtual singing sessions with us in the past, so we felt it would be lovely to invite him to join us in the flesh and meet those who he had been working with face to face! It wasn’t long before Matt had us all singing along to our favourite tunes.

Family Fun Day

On Saturday 25th of September we were finally able open the gates to our garden and invite all family and friends to our huge end of summer celebration, and boy was it a hoot!
