Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Along with our themed wall we've spent time looking at cards and books containing images from the 1950s. We've enjoyed discussing what we saw and shared memories from times gone by. We've also really loved listening to all the hits from the 1950s. What a great excuse for a dance!

Back to the 1950s!

For World Kindness Day we created a kindness wall. Alongside the kindness quotes, staff were encouraged to write their own kind words on heart shaped paper and share them with their colleagues by adding them to the wall. We all agreed that a few kind words can go a long way.

We really got into the spirt of Halloween at Riverview, even Godzilla got an invite this year.

One of our most recent trips out was to the Kemble Aerodrome. The airfield is being used to store retired aircraft including Boeing 747s and large passenger planes. Its astounding to see so many huge aircraft all lined up together.

The staff at Brunel have done an amazing job in donating and purchasing essential items for a great charity called Supporting the homeless in the south west.

We traditionally respected the two minute silence on 11-11-20 at 11 o'clock watching with interest the TV broadcast. We followed this after lunch with a typical black and white WW2 film. A very moving day, but important to us all.

Here at Carmel Lodge we celebrated Jeanne's special 90th birthday. Staff decorated the conservatory with balloons and banners. Jeanne received many lovely cards and presents followed by a glass of fizz.

Residents and staff have been raising money for Children In Need by wearing their pyjamas, fun bowties, hats and Pudsey Bear T-Shirts . They also enjoyed decorating cupcakes and having a fun time.

Here at Clumber Court we have been making some butterflies. Some of the residents chose to use different mediums to paint them. They chose there style and created some beautiful paintings.

The BIG Reveal; we are super excited at Kents Hill Care Home to be able to continue visiting in an enjoyable but most importantly safe way. We would like to introduce the 'Kents Hill Beach Hut' - now officially open for visitors 🥂😀🥰

Residents and staff at Windmill Care Centre paused their daily activities and joined together in 2 minutes of silence to remember and honour everyone who has served and lost their lives in conflict.

Croft House Care Home are taking part in Elf Day on Friday 4th December to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. Whether it's putting on an elf hat or going all out with the full elf costume we will be getting dressed up for this Christmas event.

The residents have continued to add to their pebble snake which they began in September and is currently on display outside the front of their home. They were very proud to add their poppy ones to it to help commemorate Remembrance Day.

A lovely atmosphere at The Westbourne on Remembrance Sunday. Residents joined together to honour those in all wars with two minutes silence, and reminiscing with photos of poppies and poetry.

Last week we enjoyed our cookery club. Residents decided to make chutney this time. So we made a delicious apple chutney and they all enjoyed it with their cheese and biscuit for dinner.

Here at Highfield we are really enjoying flower arranging every week and create beautiful bouquets out of fresh flowers, which some of come from our Home garden!
We have been displaying them around the home. We are really happy about the results and everyone is enjoying looking at them.

Remember remember the 5th of November, we certainly did here at Carmel Lodge. Our residents enjoyed a hot pot supper and a piece of parkin whilst watching the fabulous firework display.

Staff and residents at Hope Green were pleasantly surprised when these hampers arrived at the home as a thank you from our directors. This is really appreciated by the staff, thank you for thinking about us.

Today we had clay modelling and it was an instant hit with some of our residents, giving us great ideas and the chance to paint the models at a later date.

The weekly armchair cruise is a very popular activity for the residents as many of our residents are so well travelled.

Catherine lives at Abingdon Court and is such a friendly and helpful lady.

Gillian is such a happy and delightful lady. Until recently she enjoyed a regular manicure and having her nails looking bright and colourful.

Residents and staff joined together to celebrate David's 91st birthday, which he thoroughly enjoyed, with a special cake from his family, depicting his favourite hobby, fishing. It was almost a shame to cut it.

We have lots of Halloween fun at Parksprings, with lots of events and dress up. Staff held a Halloween Ball, with food, drink, games and pumpkin carving. It was a great day for everyone.

Exciting constructions are happening at Parksprings! We have a new log cabin in the grounds 'Rosie's Den'. Your can see it is nearing completion and we are all looking forward to using the cabin, particularly if Government guidelines allow us to use it for visits.

Here we are getting ready for our Alexandra Court Halloween celebrations. Dorothy made our mummy light up jars, to display round the home. Residents did amazing job carving the pumpkins and Owen really got into his master piece.

We held an afternoon tea at Thorntree Mews, for our residents and had a lovely afternoon going through our letters and cards from "Postcards of Kindness". Since we joined at the beginning of lockdown we have received lots of letters and cards from all over.

Here at Manorhey, we had a Autumnal day. We decorated and dressed the tables in autumn colours and we made our own lamb stew with crusty cobs and cabbage. After lunch we enjoyed spiced pumpkins coffees to warm us all up for the cold outside.

This month at The Moors we have been doing a lot of baking! We have been making apple and berry tarts, birthday buns and even a Christmas cake, just to name a few! The residents have enjoyed weighing and measuring, rolling and cutting but most of all, eating their fabulous creations.

We had an alterative Bonfire Night celebration, here at Minster Grange, with a lovely night-sky themed Son et Lumiere.

The residents had a great time putting up their 1950s wall map, spending time reminiscing about times gone by. They especially loved the collages sent to them by pupils in Year 6 at New Mills Primary School who have been learning about dementia and reminiscence.

The Westbourne moves into November with a new theme of Ireland and enjoyed A Tour Of Ireland with lots of discussion. Some residents enjoyed the activities whilst interacting with therapy dolls too.

Remember, remember the 5th November... To celebrate bonfire night the residents made their own fireworks! They also drew some firework pictures using colourful chalk.

Wednesday nights at Yohden Care Complex is bar night. We enjoy bar snacks with glasses of shandy and wine aswell as a Karaoke, play your cards right or sometimes we have a game of bingo. Karaoke is always a big hit.

There was lots of spooky goings on at Yohden Care Complex for Halloween. We all got dressed up in scary masks or painted our faces and the residents joined in with the staff. We had a lovely delivery of carved pumpkins and cakes from children of the staff at the home which was lovely

With the weather getting a little colder we have started to do a lot more activities indoors and in October enjoyed such activities as a Domino competition (the ladies were more competitive than the gents), painting little houses in the Brambles unit and sun catchers in the lodge to brighten
