Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Here at Appletree we have done some crafts and lots of other creative activities. The residents get lots of satisfaction in doing the projects as they do looking at the end product.

To celebrate Euro 2021 here at Appletree we had a little history on the game and shared our memories. We asked our residents “Where were you in 1966?”

Here at Abingdon Court, we appreciate that Fathers Day has different meanings to the people who live here. Therefore, we decided to dedicate the day to honouring the male figures in our lives who have helped to shape who we are today.

Throughout Abingdon Court, there is a shared love and admiration for the royal family. The Queen in particular, has had a huge impact on many lives, and royal stories evoke loving and heartfelt memories for lots of people.

As we enter the summer months, everybody is falling into that summer holiday feeling. With most of us unable to jet off anywhere any time soon, we opened up Abingdon Airlines and brought the holiday to our home!

One of the ladies who lives with us was telling us all about her life working in the fashion sector throughout her youth and how she loved following the trends and seeing what new and innovative pieces were being developed by the big fashion houses.

Our regular residents meetings are key dates in the Deepdene calendar where people who live and work at the home get together to discuss important matters.

Today the residents took part in a cheese and wine tasting afternoon in the gardens of the home. They learned about the different cheeses from England and France and which cheeses paired well with the white, rose’ and red wines plus port also on hand.

We have decorated the lounge ceiling this week with bunting all cut out by one of our residents, the residents painted beach nuts to hang amongst the bunting. We celebrated a birthday with a cake and our special 'birthday hat'.

Today the residents at Mary chapman court enjoyed some garden time with a parachute. We made it float like a butterfly then we made it a stormy sea. We had great fun and a little exercise too.

We celebrated International Kissing Day by making our very own lip balm. We had a choice of flavours including berry, citrus and cherry and we enjoyed decorating our own individual pots.

We have very artistic people living at Riverview such as Fidela who makes some beautiful flower arrangements. She is as beautiful as the flowers with her big smile.

Hope Green garden was filled with music and dancing in the sunshine with a wonderful visit from a talented local accordion player. It was delightful to see everyone getting involved whether that was tapping feet, clapping hands or dancing the waltz.

Strawberries, raspberries and chocolate were chosen by residents at Hope Green as favourites for adding to buttercream and decorate some lovely vanilla cupcakes together. Individual flair and creations were wonderful to see, combined with the arrival of a well earned cup of tea too!

The home is decorated with flags and banners and everyone at Riverview is getting excited about the Euros and England reaching the final. We have so many cultures and nationalities of people living with us but today were are all singing from the same song she

One of our very talented activities team started hairdressing on a Saturday during the lockdown whilst our usual hairdresser was unable to visit. The Saturday Salon proved to be so popular it carried on and continues to be a popular and busy event.

MMCG recently celebrated its inaugural Carers Appreciation Day. At Riverview we took the opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone for all of the amazing work that they do on a daily basis.

Ashmead has created a library within its Bluebell Lounge for the residents' full use. The activity team will also utilise the library to host book clubs as well as reading and discussion sessions on a regular basis.

At Deepdene we enjoy our regular visits within the local area, the park and then for coffee and a cake is one of the favourites.

The maintenance team at Ashmead recently excelled themselves in the homemade construction of a feature bar, located in our Primrose Unit lounge.

Today the residents at Mary Chapman started a new music group where we sang, danced and played our instruments. Watch this space, we may start our own rock band next!

A fun day was had by all yesterday, it was the first time we were able to safely invite family to our outdoor celebration.

Residents at Hope Green enjoyed an afternoon of creativity together. It's always interesting to see how individually creative we all are and to listen to everyone's positive comments about the things that we make.

Our residents have been busy adding to our garden family by painting Bees, Ladybirds and Hedgehogs, they've also been potting plants which adds lots of colour to our garden and makes it a lovely place to sit in the sunshine.

It's safe to say that a day dedicated to chocolate was always going to be a hit with both residents and staff here at Bowerfield Court. We held a chocolate tasting competition and our receptionist Whitney was definitely our chief taster guessing all the flavours correctly.

We had a wonderful NHS Big Tea Party on Monday in between the showers and managed to raise money to support Airedale General & Community Hospital. Thank you to all who supported our event.

We had the most wonderful time celebrating our wonderful carers for the very first MMCG Carers Appreciation Day. Where would we be without their skills, care and compassion.

We celebrated Carers Appreciation Day at Manorhey with all our carers and staff members. They enjoyed a lovely spread of food and desserts. We would like to say a big thanks to all our carers for their hard work.

In celebration of Manorhey Care Centre getting a good rating from CQC our home manager Ursa Virag treated all staff to a beautiful garden party. We all had a beautiful time with drinks and a BBQ and can say our hard work as a team payed off.

We are really looking forward to the Troutbeck NHS Big Tea event. Many thanks to Catherine, Community Champion at Tesco in Skipton for the kind donations of cakes for the event.

Bore Da! What an amazing armchair journey around Wales we had! We reminisced about family holidays that we'd all been on, especially as children. We chatted about fishing and the many different castles that we had individually visited.

It was fun all round when we all went fishing. Hooks were baited and rods were cast. Gary won our competition by catching the most fish with Kate being a close runner up. We held a 'Name That Fish' quiz and enjoyed a bag each of fish 'n' chips.

With Euro 2020 putting everyone in a winning mood our armchair trip around England was great fun. We travelled from the Dorset coast to Blackpool, from Stonehenge to the Lake District, and from Blackpool to Bath.

We are almost ready for Monday's Big Tea and are really looking forward to seeing you all. We have been donated these Teapig teabags from Booths in Ilkley for us to enjoy with our cakes, many thanks to the Manager at Booths for her kind generosity.

Being able to use our minibus to bring people who live with us to the seaside and seeing the expressions of joy on their faces has been incredible.

The rain may have been pouring outside but inside Kings Manor things were heating up with some healthy competition playing bowling. It was a popular activity with people joining the team in the ground floor lounge for the afternoon of bowling followed by refreshments.

Our gardener Seth who has spent some time developing the garden to include areas that people living with us can eat from, he has planted plum, pear and apple trees that are already starting to grow.

On 30th June 2021 Coplands celebrated “Health Care Assistant Appreciation Day”. We had a small party arranged for carers on their special day. To thank them, for their hard work. Which they truly deserve!

Birthdays are always a huge celebration, shared by the people living and working at Deepdene. Recently we celebrated with Reginald and Ahmed and the chef did us proud with the delicious homemade cakes.

To celebrate National Carers Day, resident Eve Woodhead 90 years old presented our carers with a letter from Phil Burgan, Executive Chairman, thanking each carer for the considerable hard work they do. Each carer received a monogrammed flask and an individual letter of thanks.

Faye really enjoyed spending the afternoon participating in some mindful colouring. Colouring has the ability to relax the fear centre in your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind.

Recently we took part in making and baking to help raise some funds towards for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Having many of our residents living with dementia, it runs very close to our hearts.

Birthdays are always celebrated in style at Riverview with decorations, balloons and of course homemade birthday cakes from the chef and his team. We are so pleased that families are now able to visit and celebrate birthdays in person to make the day extra special.

Our lovely birds Muffin and Blue are a huge part of life at Deepdene. They love to come out of their cages and stretch their wings. They never go far and seem to enjoy socialising with the people who live and work at Deepdene.
