Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Our home baking club activity in the home is always really popular and this month was no exception when we made home made chocolate buns. Our residents do all of the work and then our Chef at the home pops them in the oven for us. We always make extra to share with all of the resident

We love having seasonal displays in Reception at The Moors and we are delighted to present our Harvest Festival display for Autumn. Our receptionist Tricia excels at creating these wonderful displays for the residents, staff and relatives to enjoy in the coffee shop. We hope you enjoy

We celebrated Bill's 100th Birthday at the home in October, with lots of fizz and laughter. Bill was delighted to receive a very special letter from the Queen. We hope you had the most wonderful birthday with us at The Moors.

There has been plenty of activity at Oaklands this month. We have had a Paper pumpkin making with a Royal Family quiz. Pumpkin painting and making pumpkin faces with stickers. Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin carving with a group singalong.

Halloween has arrived at Manor Park and each unit have been challenged to decorated their own lounge.

Just a little thank you to all the team at Manor Park for being so amazing at what they do. Today is cake Friday for all the staff and residents and our residents loved picking their favourite cake to enjoy with their carers on shift that day.

We had a wonderful Friday afternoon in October with a live singing entertainment us from the garden. We enjoyed having a singalong and dance and had a great time. So pleased he was able to visit before the cold days set in.

As the lawns were cut for winter we popped out to do some gardening with the residents planting some colourful flowers to see us through the winter months at the home. The residents had a wonderful time deciding which plants were being potted where and we can’t wait for you to see them when

We were all set for our Halloween party at the home on Sunday 31st October and bought some witches hats for our residents to dress up in and be part of the fun and games we had planned. Our wonderful kitchen team created a buffet for us and we enjoyed lots of party games and spooky Hallowee

We are enjoying getting out and about again and in October we enjoyed a lovely day out to the Japanese Gardens. We had such a wonderful day following the map of the gardens and exploring the bridges, gardens and pathways. We would definitely recommend a visit if you’ve not been before.

We thought we’d set ourselves a challenge of learning the accordion at the home today. What a chuckle we had taking turns and seeing who could make the best tune.

We had a visit from Comley Park Nursery today. Out in our lovely garden and Summerhouse. The residents have really missed their weekly visit and it was lovely to catch up . Visit had to be outside because of restrictions but with our gardens and summerhouse it was easy to facilitate.

One of our sister homes were looking for pen-pals and never one to miss an opportunity for our residents we took up the challenge. We spent a lovely morning creating some cards for posting to our new contacts and pen pals and we can’t wait to hear back from them.

Doing the things that we love the most. Thank you to Lugar bowling club for helping us support our residents to keep involved. Over seventy years membership between them and a few championship titles. New memories were made and time spent remembering the good old times.

We celebrated the MMCG and Countrywide 7th annual care awards in September and were delighted when Glennie House was a winner. Our very own night shift carer Kimberly McCracken, won Carer of the year 2021. So unbelievably proud to have her as part of our team. Well done Kimberly.

We celebrated a belated Macmillan Coffee morning at the Home in September raising money for this wonderful charity.

Well done to one of our incredible team members who took part in the Memory Walk with her daughter and family to raise money for Alzheimer's Society . They took part in the South Shields memory walk on 9th October and raised a whopping £485 for the charity.

We celebrated Halloween at Willowdene and had lots of fun dressing up in the home. Residents and staff dressed up and had a Halloween party. We were entertained by Sam Naylor who was brilliant and enjoyed lots of sweets and cupcakes during the afternoon and a Halloween buffet for tea

We celebrated Alzheimer’s month at the home in September by creating our own dragon flies and lilies. Our residents created a wonderful display of their work and to remember Alzheimer’s during the month of September.

We got into the Halloween spirit during arts and crafts at the home in October and created our own ghouls. We think we did a really good job of them and the concentration during arts and crafts was intense.

We had a lovely afternoon being entertained by Mike Wild as Elvis outside of the home in October. Our residents sat in the reception area of the home and Elvis performed for us in our patio garden. There was lots of singing and we enjoyed some fresh cream cakes and tea.

We have been making the most of the last of the sunshine in the garden in October and we had ice cream and a visit from the neighbours cat. Brenda enjoyed the feeling of grass on her feet. Fair well summer, hello to a new season with lots of fun planned.

We celebrated National Mad Hatters Day in October with tea and cakes and made jam tarts the day before Mad Hatters Day. It was also Thomasina's 101st birthday so it was a double celebration at the home on 8th October for us.

The winter days are fast approaching and we haven’t been out in the gardens as much this month but that doesn’t stop us having fun in the home. We created our own table tennis table in the dining room and challenged each other to a competition. There were lots of laughter ringing out

We have received a lovely donation of fiddle muffs hand made by a local lady who kindly made us a variety of these for our home. Our residents loved them and we were so grateful for the donation.

Old Hallows Eve is fast approaching this month and as always the wonderful residents at Field View are getting prepared and making decorations to display around the home ready for our Halloween party. We have lots of spooky surprises in store.

James, one of our residents at Earsdon Grange was over the moon when he walked his daughter down the aisle in October. He enjoyed spending the day at the wedding and came back to the home with lots of smiles and stories about the day. We think his daughter just looked absolutely beaut

We have had quite a few birthday celebrations in the home this month and Chef Moira never lets us down with her home baked cakes. We love home baking at the home and spend many an afternoon with Moira creating biscuits and cakes for coffee mornings at the home. We can’t wait to be abl

The winter days are fast approaching and we haven’t been out in the gardens as much this month but that doesn’t stop us having fun in the home. Pat organised to have a dominoes competition in the coffee shop with residents and carers.

The people living and working at Woodlands care home went all out for Halloween. Not only were the traditional scary faces carved into the pumpkins there were glittery cats and spiders and some beautifully decorated smaller pumpkins and squashes.

As the days become cooler through Autumn our exercise routines continue with 'Rise & Shine' activities for everyone. Whether you enjoy the music, the movement, the percussion or the games it's always a joy to be involved in.

In preparation for our Halloween Party and to celebrate National Pumpkin Day, our talented staffs and residents started doing the giant pumpkin carving. Amber Court’s Resident did the sketching, then the staff doing the carving after. It is a team effort after all.

Bowerfield House had a special visitor last week, our lovely and friendly scarecrow that we named Edward. All the residents loved our scarecrow and we proudly placed him outside at the main entrance to greet all of our visitors.

When we announced that we will be having a Halloween party in Amber Court, our residents and staff were very excited for it. We started preparing for the event through organizing a small activity with the residents and staff by carving pumpkins and making decorations.

Our residents made homemade lemonade last week. We squeezed fresh lemons and mixed the juice with water ice and sugar. We all really enjoyed this and they felt hydrated and refreshed.

We had lots of memories whilst sampling food and drink from the Agean . It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by all.

We enjoyed decorating lanterns in lovely autumn colours to look like the leaves on the trees outside. Putting an electronic candle in them really made the colours pop!

Bowerfield House had a great day celebrating Halloween. We had a firework display and sparkles overseen by our maintenance man George, residents and staff watched from the conservatory.

It's great to see friendships at Hope Green and it's always a joy to bring the men together to chat, play games, and eat lunch. Today we explored some new books too which we loved chatting about. Topics of particular interest were The Titanic and The Suffragettes!
