Moving into a care home made easy

Our Albert the veg man was in a very sore state and needed some TLC, our Administrator Kirsty said her mum enjoyed painting and was willing to give him a makeover for us, we were really grateful for this and awaited the results with bated breath.

At Bowerfield House we celebrated her majesty Queen Elizabeth's 95th birthday. Our residents wrote her a birthday card and Barry posted it in our own private post box. Special visit form HRH to Bowerfield House where Barry presented her his birthday card.

It was National Cheese Day recently, who could resist a cheese and wine afternoon? A wide range of cheeses were prepped by the Head Chef, coupled with a selection of biscuits and a glass of wine.

As well as trying lots of tasty Italian Food we also used a selection of fresh ingredients to top our pizza which we enjoyed for dinner that evening. Bellissima!

What a beautiful day to get outside and have a bit of fun, so what if we had to create our own breeze. We had a great time playing games and we even managed to just sit for 5 minutes to enjoy the sun on the way back.

We celebrated National Carer's Week by putting on an ice cream tasting day to say thank you to all our care staff. Residents and staff enjoyed several different flavours of ice cream together with cornets, lollies, wafers, sauces and sprinkles.

We have been hosting dinner parties at Ashmead. It's a very relaxing setting with music in the background. The people who live at Ashmead enjoy having lunch together and choosing their own menu beforehand but most of all they enjoy chatting and sharing memories and stories together.

An enjoyable day was had by all at Ashmead Care Centre when an Indian Cuisine BBQ with a Military twist was arranged for the residents. Residents and staff enjoyed the special BBQ prepared by the Head Chef and his team.

Bowerfield House celebrated Carers Week by giving our fantastic team of carers a certificate and a homemade keyring made by myself with a heart mental heath jigsaw logo and a Alzheimer's logo.

We had a visit from Jim, our favourite ice cream man. Residents and staff enjoyed their ice creams which they had after eating fish and chips in paper trays to celebrate National Fish and Chip Day.

We have had a large delivery of cakes supplied from the friends of Troutbeck which was a lovely surprise. The residents will really enjoy these this afternoon with their cups of tea.

The residents enjoyed soaking up the sun on Wednesday afternoon at Dussindale Park. We planted tomato plants and sprinkled sweet pea seeds in our garden. We can't wait for the wonderful display and delightful smell.

Staff and residents enjoyed a BBQ in the sun this week at Dussindale Park. Our chef prepared delicious burgers and hot dogs, all washed down with a tipple.

We decided we would have a Chinese themed day. Our wonderful chef came up with a very tasty menu for our residents, which they all really enjoyed. We then made Chinese lanterns to decorate the dining room tables and the residents seemed to find this very enjoyable.

For Games Day this week the residents at The Hawthorns played a range of games and together cheered each other on to win prizes. Everybody had a great laugh when the residents thought hard to think of quotes to go with some amusing photos we displayed.

Volunteers week is a time to recognise the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. At Riverview we delivered gifts and a big thank you to the unsung heroes at our local Sue Ryder and Cats Protection League charity shops.

Bowerfield House and our sister home The Belvedere linked up to do a come dine with me event. Our theme was royalty so we wore cut out face masks and got the Union Jack flags out. We also wrote the Queen a birthday card as its her official birthday next week, Happy Birthday Your Majesty.

Residents helped make colourful Mardi Gras shakers from empty Pringles tubes, cardboard rolls and paper towel tubes. They were decorated with free wallpaper samples, coloured feathers, flowers, butterflies and beads. They were then filled with dried rice.

The backdrop was created by activities coordinator Marianne, residents helped to put up the balloons and decorations. The cake was made by one of our carers in the company colours. Marianne decorated it with a Mardi Gras Mask, feathers, flowers, butterflies and baubles.

Hope Green were treated to a morning of toe tapping and hand clapping music from a local accordion entertainer and it was a roaring success. Residents and staff couldn't resist getting involved and were even up dancing which was wonderful to be a part of.

Today we did arm chair travel and our residents went to the beach! We did a virtual tour of Cromer, Sheringham and Southwold, built sand castles, made our very own beach sandals, played beach volleyball, had chance to feel a range of interesting beach shells and paint our own sea side postcard.

For World Bee Day we enjoyed a range of different crafts here at Bowerfield Court. We painted little wooden bumble bees which we made into badges, made pom pom bees and painted bee feeders.

Today at Manorhey we tried different chocolates as part of our tasting session. We had to see what flavours we could taste, if we recognise the chocolate bar and if we enjoyed the taste of that particular bar.

Our residents spent time talking about our carnival party and enjoyed planning and prepping lots of different activities, we spent quite some time making the signs and cage for our trolley to hold the circus animals. Everyone was really pleased with the outcome.

This week we have had a group reminiscence workshop for dementia action week. We have looked at old photos, listened to music from the 40s and 50s and had an old time music hall sing a long. Here is our Betty sharing one of the pictures we have talked about.
