Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

We celebrated Christmas Jumper Day here in Amber Court. Our kitchen prepared homemade mince pies, hot chocolate and mould wine for everyone. All the staff and residents wore their colourful, fluffiest, ugliest, funniest, and itchiest sweater. We all had a fun day indeed.

Margaret, Roy and the rest of the residents loved the cold and foggy morning. Some of them decided to go outside while drinking their hot chocolate to warm them and a bit of chat with each other. Everyone enjoyed it and want to do it again once in a while.

Winter is coming, but here at Amber Court there is a small chance of snow. That is why we decided to decorate our windows to look like we have it. Everything is handcrafted by our talented staff and residents. Using only white papers and scissors. Look how lovely it is.

Deepdene was awash with the delicious smell of home baked Christmas cookies. We decided to bake some traditional German cookies this year and everyone loved them, they didn’t last long!

We won’t let our regular exercise class fall to the wayside even if it is Christmas.

In the run up to Christmas we are busier than ever. As well as all the Christmas festivities we are also keen to continue with the regular activities that we all enjoy some much such as art, bingo and even air hockey.

What a lovely time we've been having together as our residents have been considering what their wishes would be as they reflect on the year and look ahead. Group discussion and much thought brought everyone together to think about the things that are important and enjoyable.

The Hope Green Post Office was open this week and our residents were visiting to post their hand made Christmas Cards. Each resident had spent time carefully making their own card and then enjoyed the fun of a Festive Photo Shoot at our very own Post Office.

One of our residents in the home, Ann is an ambassador for Bridlington and White Rose Lodge. She has recently been interviewed by Jenni MacDonald for a Channel 5 exclusive for the longest running shop in Bridlington which she hugely enjoyed.

River View welcomed the 'Moving On' choir to sing some beautiful carols to the delight of everyone living and working with us.

We all wrapped up warm and cleared our throats, ready to join in with the beautiful voices of the choir, led by Choir Master Derry.

Here at Kents Hill we our ending the year by actively supporting our local food bank.

We have started collecting donations from our staff team, relatives and family friends and we are planning to make our first donation by the end of the week.

On Friday 3rd December, we took part in the annual ‘Elf Day’ celebrations, encouraged by Alzheimer’s Society nationwide!

We enjoyed a wonderful musical afternoon at Kents Hill, provided by our resident Maureen who played some of our favourite Christmas tunes. It was lovely to watch Maureen play and we all enjoyed the music.

Our first communion church service from the cathedral was a wonderful return one which the residents enjoyed very much, this service will take place every Wednesday. A huge thank you to the Cathedral.

Morag returned for her first live show with everyone and how fantastic was it.. Morag chatted about how much she had missed everyone and how wonderful to be back.. great tai chi class and fantastic to welcome Morag into the home again.

We have been in production mode in November making some gorgeous Christmas Wreaths. We have some talented resident’s in the home and we think they have made an excellent job of creating these Wreaths.

A happy home is something we always offer at Wallace View and our fabulous Domestic team are always singing. The residents love it and one day they asked if they could have a sing along with the domestic team, which they were honoured to do.

We had a lovely day in November learning how to play the accordion. The residents had such a chuckle trying to play this and the sounds were interesting. We all took turns in trying to press the buttons and play along to some songs we knew. It was much harder than it looked.

As the winter weather sets in we are hosting more movie afternoons at the home and in November we enjoyed a film of resident’s choice. We had bags of popcorn and sweets along with a cuppa as we all watched the movie on Brambles and enjoyed reminiscing about when we first seen the film in th

We celebrated Elf Day at Field view and took the opportunity to have our elves set up our Christmas trees in the home and outside of the home for the residents to enjoy. We even had a wrapping competition where our elves wrapped up Christmas presents as quickly as they could. We hope

Here at White Rose Lodge, we have adapted one of our regular weekly activities, to make it more “Resident centred” so that Residents have more control in decision making. The sing along session on Saturday was curated by Pat, and she chose a selection of songs from a list.

As we say good by to Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes where our residents enjoyed a beef broth for lunch and then mini hotdogs and ginger cake for dinner, followed by a fireworks display.

We have placed Remembrance crosses around the gardens at Oaklands, in quiet reflection for those we have lost. We also think of all who are still with us, who have served.

November's challenge was to enhance our dining experience in the home. We sat down with our residents and asked them about some of their most favourite dining experiences over the years and one theme which came out a few times was weddings our residents had attended.

It’s beginning to look like Christmas at Willowbank Care Home and we were delighted when Santa’s helpers came in to the home to entertain our residents.

Our residents are loving our new fish tank which was kindly donated by Alyson Thompson’s husband and were delighted when our new fish arrived at the home.

We celebrated Diwali at the home in November and our wonderful cook Kuljit made us homemade samosa’s to enjoy with our meal. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the food and the history of Diwali.

Today was NAPA Parfait day. Parfait is a type of food that is eaten as a dessert. Parfaits are typically made of several layers of a few basic ingredients, like yogurt, fruit, and granola. We chose apple and yogurt with a biscuit crunch for our Parfait.

We enjoyed our Oomph get fit class cricket style in November, we turned the lounge into our very own cricket pitch. We had our very own batters, fielding team and bowlers. Thanks to NAPA we had a very good cricket quiz. All good fun, here at the Moors care centre!

The staff at The Moors Care Centre brought bits from home, their husbands medals and army boots to create a Remembrance display for visitors and residents to the home.

Christmas is coming to Minster Grange. Our residents and staff are so excited to be getting into the festive spirit. We have trees on each unit at the home and the residents have enjoyed helping to put them up in the lounges.

Here at Manor Park Care Home we are doing a reverse advent calendar in December. Everyday of advent items can be added to the box and then on Christmas this will be given to a local homeless charity at Trinity Methodist Church.

Corinthian House Remembers.... Our fallen soldiers on the battlefield, the men who returned to their loved ones and the women folk left at home or working in the factories. Corinthian House always celebrates Remembrance Day, and this year was no different.

Our residents enjoyed archery lessons in November. We had a lovely morning learning a new skill and many laughs as the arrows just didn't go as planned and pinged around the room miles away from the target.

We have had a vintage seaside cafe experience at Corinthian House in November.

The residents had fish and chips, bread butter and tea, we played seaside themed tunes and the activities team were the waitresses for the day.

We had a lovely day in November when Emily came into the home to sing for us. The residents have really enjoyed themselves singing along and clapping to the songs they knew from last year.

Here at Abingdon Court we celebrated St Andrews day by taking the people who live with us on our much loved Armchair Travels, and as you guessed - this time to Scotland!

Everyone living with us at Brunel has been busy making Christmas card designs and festive jars in preparation for the Christmas fete. We will be show casing residents work throughout the year for families and friends to enjoy.

Back in late October you may have seen pictures of some of our residents making Christmas cakes and each week we have been feeding them brandy in the traditional fashion, in preparation for them to be iced.

The 1st December meant only one thing......tree dressing!

We sang and danced to festive tunes and we even had a little count down before doing the light switch on.
