Our stories

The meaning of being a mother is virtually endless. A mother is a protector, disciplinarian, and friend. A mother is a selfless and often makes many sacrifices for the wants and needs of her children.

We decided to create an Easter wreath in our reception to welcome everyone visiting the home. Everyone is so amazed to see how creative and lovely the wreath is, especially the resident’s relatives.

Acorn House are over the moon with the recent Health Watch report which followed after an unannounced visit, care home manager Cherise Homer-Beck said we are so happy with the report feed back and really pleased with some of the kind comments made to the health watch inspectors by staff, visitors

Last week we launched our new Hope Green Newsletter which created much interest between staff and residents. It was sent digitally to families too encouraging them to get involved, and we received feedback and thanks.

Our residents celebrated Mother’s Day with music by the talented Sam Jones. In the afternoon it was high tea in the sunshine and to finish the day we delivered a rose to each of our very special Mothers.

We started the morning with a selection of beautiful hymns to sing along to, in the afternoon we talked about special memories with our Mothers and then of becoming Mothers ourselves.

St Patricks day was enjoyed by our Irish couple as they had a lovely meal shared together with their family.

Bowerfield House have been busy organising and choosing our Queen`s jubilee tree which is being planted on 25th March. We are very excited about this which is why we are choosing a colour for our garden fence which is the start of our garden project.

All the staff and residents came up for a birthday surprise for our very own Home Manager, Delma Dela Cruz. We made beautiful paper flowers that show her name and decorated the room with lots of balloons. We kept this as a secret to her and surprised her on her very special day.

Manorhey residents enjoyed a couples valentine lunch. David and Elsie both celebrated valentines day together at the cafe hey.

Bowerfield House had a fantastic day celebrating Valentines day, we had a singer Sam come into the home, every one enjoyed themselves and sang a long to the love songs.

We had a Valentines raffle and our lovely nurse, Albinah, won the beautiful valentines basket raffle full of goodies!

Last week our residents were getting crafty creating Chinese lantern and fans for Chinese New Year and enjoyed a Chinese curry dish for dinner. Our residents enjoyed film afternoon watching the famous funny face and got to choose within the group what they would like to watch.

Thank you very much to Patricia and her lovely family for sending us some lovely boxes of sweeties which brightened our day here at the home. We did, of course, share these with Pat as we know she has a sweet tooth like us.

We were overjoyed by the turnout to our Carol Concert. Our residents had the most wonderful time welcoming friends and families to join us for carols, home made mince pies and mulled wine.

We have been collecting donations for the Salvation Army in Keighley.

A big thank you to Yorkshire Cleaning and Maintenance for your kind donation of Toys and Games and also to Airdale Hospital for your donation of food and toiletries, and from our families we really appreciate it.

The dementia bus came to Minster Grange in November, staff relatives and visiting professionals enjoyed the experience. The feedback has been phenomenal and we are currently working on how we can implement new learnings into our home.

It was the first of our Christmas activities today - it’s that time of year already! Our residents enjoyed making Christmas cards today ready to give to family and friends. They enjoyed using paint and adding some sparkly sequins!
