Team Claremont scores a trip to St James Park

A Memorable Day at St James Park in Exeter.

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting St James Park to watch Exeter City vs Huddersfield, and it was a truly special day for our resident Bob Rackley. Bob played for Exeter City from 1958 to 1960. This was his first time back at the club and his first live football match in many, many years! After his 2 seasons at ECFC, he went on to play for numerous other clubs including Bristol Rovers and Oldham Athletic FC. We were welcomed with open arms by Martin Weiler at the club museum, who kindly shared incredible stories and photos from Bob’s playing days. Bob chose football over electrician training back in the day, and what a journey it’s been! Our visit included a tour of the stadium, meeting the groundskeepers and club officials, enjoying a classic pasty and Bovril, and settling into front row pitch-side seats for the match. The result wasn’t quite what we hoped for with a 1-0 win to Huddersfield, but the experience was unforgettable. Bob was treated like a VIP, and we’re so grateful for the kindness and hospitality shown by everyone at the club. A huge thank you to Katy, our wonderful Customer Relations Manager, for organising this amazing trip. Here’s to football, memories, and the incredible stories that connect us all.
