Live Music From Song Box

We recently had a lovely visit from Thea at Song Box to sing to us from the garden. Thea sent in the below message to the home.

"Thank you for inviting me back to sing in the garden. We had a delightful afternoon, singing for a full hour in the lovely grounds. Thanks to great feedback from staff after my last visit we found a spot that could be seen by residents and staff from two roof gardens, many bedrooms, the garden patio, and two other areas with garden seating.

There was such a lovely atmosphere with folk singing and clapping along, hand jiving, chatting, enjoying ice lollies and waving their appreciation across to me. It was so pleasing to see I was supporting staff wellbeing too. I noticed several staff listening or having a little dance during their break, and others waving to alert me that they had brought residents to their bedroom windows.

One resident particularly enjoyed clapping along adding expansive, dancerly arm gestures which will have benefited her circulation, active breathing, posture, muscle tone and flexibility. Sitting outside will have boosted people’s vitamin D levels. The sense of occasion and interest visibly boosted social, emotion and cognitive engagement. Many residents were keen to catch my eye and exchange a wave. One resident was initially tearful. As I offered to sing for her specifically, choosing a song together, she became more engaged. As the song progressed her mood was transformed to contented smiles, and accepting an ice lolly from her carer. The happy atmosphere evoked many positive memories. One lady telling me, her carer and a nearby resident how her grandchildren love it when she gets up to dance with them.

I’m so pleased to be back, singing live and acoustic, bringing good cheer to residents and staff alike. Let me know when you would like another visit and I’ll be very pleased to visit again."
