Let's party like we are Royals

It was the Queen's 94th birthday and here at Abingdon Court Care Home we couldn't let it go without celebrating!

Organising such an event was so much fun and Kirsty, Activities Coordinator couldn't wait to get it all set up. Kirsty arranged a crown making activity in the week leading up to the party to get everyone in the spirit of being Royal for the day.

With the help of many staff the party got underway on the 12th June. All staff members wore gold crowns for the day for a bit of fun. The residents who made crowns wore theirs with pride and everyone was given a flag to wave throughout the day which became rather amusing! During the morning we congregated in the lounge to take pictures in our attire. We all listened to nostalgic music and played catch with the balloons. The ladies had some costume jewellery on and those that wanted to wore a little makeup. We all laughed as we played with the balloons which I think took us all back to being a child for a moment.

After lunch we moved to the dining room for afternoon tea where we were presented with the most delightful cake created by the kitchen staff here at Abingdon Court Care Home. We all sat together tucking in and sharing stories of memories about the Queen's history.

The residents and staff used silly Royal props for photos to keep us all laughing and then we all sat down to a Royal Quiz of which some became very competitive!

During what has been an emotional time through this pandemic this party was just what the doctor ordered and was enjoyed by all.
