Gold Standard in North Yorkshire Healthier Choices Awards

Good food should be savoured and celebrated.

Belmont House is proud to be one of a few businesses in the area to be accredited with the Gold Standard in North Yorkshire County Council’s ‘healthier choices’ awards, an initiative to recognise those businesses that are providing their customers with healthier eating choices.

To qualify for the award the menu options are judged on their nutritional value and how they ensure the meals are balanced, prepared and cooked in a health-conscious manner without compromising on taste or customer satisfaction.

Belmont House’s head chef, Steve Bandy said: “It’s the use of high-quality ingredients that make all the difference in creating the best quality cuisine. Most care homes use boxed, packet and pre-prepared ingredients. Everything we use is fresh and all of our meals are cooked on site. When I first started working at Belmont House, I put a stop to pre-prepared meals and started building relationships with local suppliers. That way I was able to source new ingredients and negotiate deals so we can get the best quality to create our daily menus for our valued residents.”

The dining experience for their residents is paramount to Steve and the Belmont House catering team. They even regularly consult with their residents on menu choices and incorporate new dishes from the suggestions offered by them.

Menus are rotated on a weekly basis and are based on the preferences and nutritional needs of their residents, with several choices on offer for each meal of the day.

The catering team also works closely with the activities team to prepare meals and snacks in keeping with themed events and special evenings in the activities programme, for example, World Food nights.
