Burns Night at The Moors

Whisky tasting, sea shanty and singing for burns night here at The Moors.  We had a lovely day leading up to the Burns Day supper with haggis, neeps and tatties prepared by our fabulous Chef’s at the home and enjoyed cups of tea and Shortbread biscuits during the day.

New Year Wreath

An Oaklands resident skilfully crafted a New Year wreath in January to mark the turn of the year. She used fresh greenery from the Oakland’s gardens and some Christmas baubles. The result has been proudly displayed at the entrance to our home, it looks very impressive, and we are sure you will agree.

National Bird Watch at Oaklands

Residents recently spent an hour taking part in the National Bird Watch scheme, we had three residents watching from the lounge and three watching from their rooms. Our tally for the hour was two great tits, two blue tits, two female blackbirds, two male blackbirds, two starlings, three robins and a wood pigeon.

Playing On The Wii

We had a fantastic afternoon on the Wii, residents really enjoyed it. Ken seemed to have loved every minute of it. The other residents just wanted to watch and cheer Ken on. They were his biggest supporters.

Regional Hero Award

We were delighted when Jeanette, our wonderful Housekeeper here at Corinthian House won our first Regional Hero Award.

Jeanette works tirelessly to support residents within Corinthian House. She oversees the housekeeping and laundry team and supports in the kitchen. On Christmas Eve Jeanette supported the night shift by coming into care when a staff member called in sick at short notice. Jeanette is a pleasure to work with and does her job with an admirable amount of love, compassion, and kindness, she is an asset to the Corinthian House and Yorkshire regional team.

Chinese New Year Celebrations at Corinthian

The residents really enjoyed the Chinese New Year celebrations. They made sparklers and lanterns and enjoyed some Chinese food. We talked about the different animals of the Chinese zodiac calendar. We found out what animals everyone was from the year they were born and coloured some pictures of them. We also listened to some Chinese music on Alexa.

Games at Croft House

We had some fun with the old games at the home this month as well as learning new technology.  We played games of hoopla, tin can alley and then an afternoon of games on the tablet (squash the spider).  The residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were so good at squashing the spider.

Fish and Chip Friday

We enjoyed a lovely fish supper from our local fish and chip shop in January as a treat. Every Friday at the home we enjoy Fish and Chips but this Friday we received chips from our favourite local shop. The residents had such a lovely time, eating chips out of the paper and reminiscing about childhood memories and fish and chips with their own families. It was such a wonderful lunchtime.

Weekly Tea Club

We always enjoyed going to our tea club but with COVID and the cold winter days we decided to start our own weekly tea club at the home. Our residents look forward to it each week and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with each other.

Rabbie Burns Night at Wallace View

Rabbie Burns Night at the home is always something our residents enjoy, and this year was no different. We had a piper and an accordion player to entertain our residents and lots of singing and dancing before we sat down to a supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.
