Keeping connected to the community

Being part of the wider community means being outward-looking, building connections and relationships, and offering support and help where it’s needed – and each and every one of our care homes strives to further its community links. We love to celebrate this spirit, so we thought we’d share with you a couple of ways we’ve recently been keeping connected to the community.

LGBT February Awareness Month

Bowerfield Court and Bowerfield House staff and residents are celebrating LGBT February awareness month.

This year's national awareness month is looking at LGBT history and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movement. Some of the history included covers role models, community building and represents major contributions of the LGBT community. Very topical and interesting.

Allingham's Activities

We know how important it is to keep in touch in these challenging times and thanks to the technology this is possible. The residents have enjoyed a video call with the children from the nursery next door and from the IBS. The children and the residents really enjoyed singing their favourite songs like Incy Wincy Spider, I'm A Little Teapot, The Grand Old Duke Of York and Jack and Jill.

History of Chocolate

We have been discussing the history of Chocolate and our own local brands. Lots of lovely Bournville chocolate was available which was Lillian's favourite.

Burns Night

Burns Night was celebrated at Cavendish Court with poetry, whisky and clootie pudding. A wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all.

The Price Is Right

We had a lovely afternoon at Cavendish Court recreating The Price is Right. Residents were invited to come on down and guess the price. The residents had a great discussion around the rise in prices and the cost of living nowadays. Good fun had by all and our amazing assistant Jordan was a great hit.

Chocolate Celebration

Chocolate celebration, lots of conversation which is the nicest and our favourite brands.

The Dignity Daisy

It is world dignity day on February 1st. Our residents at Cavendish Court enjoyed spending time discussing what dignity meant to them. We then displayed these so all staff can be reminded of what is important to each resident. The little things matter!

A New Year At Bowerfield House

Its been a busy new year at Bowerfield House. We planted our bulbs ready to enjoy the blooming flowers later on in the year. We enjoyed Burns Night and the most amazing Scottish meals - haggis, neeps and tatties - cooked by our chef Matt. The Big Garden Birdwatch with the RSBP showed us just how many beautiful birds visit our garden - sparrows, black birds and blue tits. We loved watching them feed from our newly built and painted bird table. We celebrated two January birthdays - Happy Birthday to both Lorna and John!
