Rosedale Cake and Chatter

Rosedale Care Home in Catterick Garrison have been looking at new ideas of things to do in the home during this period of lockdown and one of the great ideas we had was to hold a weekly coffee morning. We held our first one in March and our residents had a fabulous time.  We started off with an introduction to ourselves and how old we were in 1974 as this was the year we decided to talk about, what job we had and memories from this year.  Everyone had such great stories and one of our residents had been a miner down the pit in Bishop Auckland working with the Pit Ponies and telling us stories of how the pit ran, what kind of funny things happened that no one really talked about and the miners strike. Another resident had worked as a petrol pump attendant during the petrol rationing and had some horrible stories of how people behaved because they could only get 2 gallons of it and we related that to modern day times with the shortage of pasta, tinned goods and toilet rolls during this pandemic.

There was lots of laughter from memories of the past and we talked about the clothes people used to wear and how funny they look now even though back then they were super trendy.  We listened to old songs from the 70’s like Abba, Jackson 5 and Elton John to name a few. We chose 1969 for our next coffee morning so we can’t wait for next week now.
