Grand National

The Grand National is the most famous of British Horse races. It was first run in 1839 and is a race over distance of 4 miles and 2 and a half furlongs. There are 30 jumps.

There will be prizes of chocolate for the first 5 in the race, alternative treats will be provided for people who cannot eat chocolate.

Horses can live well into their twenties, race horses rarely race after their teens and many young race horses are no longer required if the do not win a race. Many of these horses are not mad or damaged and can be re-trained for riding horses for people to enjoy in leisure pursuits.

I (Carmel Lodge Activities - Sue) have race horses The ones in the past have lived to a great old age..... and the ones I have now are ridden around the local countryside and occasionally take part in amateur events and competitions.
