Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day we had a lovely session painting kind words and images that meant something to the residents onto pebbles. A lovely time had by all with wonderful conversation of residents sharing memories and thoughtful words.

Virtual coffee chats with loved ones and lots of cake baked by our fabulous team. Our star baker today was Lauren for her wonderful white and milk chocolate cake.

We enjoyed such a lovely Valentines Day at Ashfield Court with lots of lovely snacks and treats throughout the day. Our Chef, Douglas made us a gorgeous dinner and we relaxed in the afternoon with treats and a cup of tea.

Today we had a virtual tour of Paris, taking in the sights from the Eiffel Tower to the Moulin Rouge. We listened to music from Edith Piaf whilst sampling French Cheese and Wine.

We spent one of our mornings this week making hearts for our Valentines party. Arts and crafts brings so much fun to our days, it increases self esteem, eliminates boredom, makes us feel relaxed and encourages socializing with other.

It was an extra-ROAR-dinary Chinese New Year celebration for everyone here in Amber Court. Residents and staff enjoyed the yummy Chinese foods tasting. Also, we made some Chinese lanterns to decorate the home with the help of our very talented residents and staff. Happy Chinese New Year!

Since it is National Pizza Day, we all gathered and ate different flavours of pizzas. We really enjoyed the day, we shared stories of our favourite pizza flavours and memories we got about pizza. We had a good laugh whilst socializing with each other.

February is a season of love, especially on 14th of February. We celebrated this day by having a lovely full course dinner prepared by our kitchen chef and also a nice table setup made by our staff and residents.

We celebrated Valentines Day with a delicious selection of cakes for afternoon tea, served in our best China Cups here at Troutbeck.

Yesterday we potted a scented rose bush, our residents are really excited to see this grow.

Staff at Windmill Court were overwhelmed by a special Staff Appreciate Day organised by the people living with us here in St Minver. Each staff member was presented with a card which had a packet of sweet peas attached, along with a lovely thank you note .

For Chinese New staff and residents made their own Chinese zodiac badges to celebrate the year of the Tiger. We laughed and had fun discussing the different traits and if they suited any of our personalities.

Our residents had a great time at yesterdays Valentines bash! We had Rich from Britain's Got Talent here to sing us some big band love songs. A great time was had by all.

Valentines Day at Hope Green was a lovely celebration with residents and staff gathering together to decorate the home with flowers, balloons, hearts and ribbons.

There is a magnificent yew tree between Carmel Lodge and Hope Green care homes.

You may know that yew trees are traditionally grown in church yards. This is not symbolic, but practical in times gone by.

We have been busy baking heart shaped cookies for Valentine’s Day. Vera has also been preparing some sweet treats as a Valentines Day surprise for her friends and the staff.

What a fantastic day we had at Bowerfield House, one of our residents Jenny and her family love Christmas but sadly they were not able to celebrate it due to lockdown and her family having covid.

After being closed for such a long period our residents this week enjoyed a concert by one of our regular performers Sam Jones. Sam sang favourite jams requested from residents as they boogied along. We can surely say the residents have thoroughly enjoyed this magical musical moment.

Love was in the air at Manorhey as residents made beautiful cards for their loved ones for Valentines Day. We all got very creative as everyone made their own cards personalised.

We've had quite a few birthdays to celebrate already this month which means lots of cake, singing, dancing and fun to be had by all. We all love a good excuse for a party and the atmosphere is loved by everyone.

We were finally able to welcome in the wonderful Tickled Pink Productions to perform their version of Cinderella. It was an absolute hoot, keeping all who were watching engaged.

Australia Day was celebrated with one of our most favourable activities - armchair travel.

A selection of wine and cheese from around the world, what more could you want? Over 25 of the people living with us joined the party and gave their critiques. It was a most enjoyable time and all are very much looking forward to the next soiree.

We celebrated burns night with haggis, neeps and tatties and washed down with a glass of whiskey. We listened to traditional bagpipes after remembering the life of Robert Burns, The peoples poet.

Gardening club is back in full swing and we have began to sow our seeds! All have enjoyed getting their hands stuck in to the soil and looking through the variety of flowers that we have been potting. Look out for our red sunflowers and our giant yellow sunflowers.

Bowerfield House enjoyed making a microwave mug pizza today from the NAPA Activities Calendar. We added all the ingredients to a mug and popped it in the microwave for a minute and 20 seconds, Barry tasted the pizza and said it was lovely.

The Valentines Day activities are well underway, today Vera made a special gingerbread cookie for her daughter to tell her how much she loves her. In Italian of course!

Last week our residents were getting crafty creating Chinese lantern and fans for Chinese New Year and enjoyed a Chinese curry dish for dinner. Our residents enjoyed film afternoon watching the famous funny face and got to choose within the group what they would like to watch.

Bowerfield House enjoyed celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee 70th Anniversary of her reign, what an amazing woman! Elizabeth II is already the nations longest reigning monarch, and the longest still serving sovereign in the world, no wonder the world loves her, long live the Queen.

What a better way to enjoy Saturday evening with a Cheese and Wine Party! The residents had a great time singing and dancing their favourite songs while a selection of red and white wines were served with cheese, grapes and crackers.

For Chinese New Year our lovely residents enjoyed arts and crafts, creating Chinese lanterns and fans. Everyone was happy and we did the craft step by step so that everyone knew exactly how to make them.

Our residents love receiving mail. Karen, from the postcards of kindness scheme, sent us some lovely cards with some interesting news and facts. They were great conversation starters.

We had fun this afternoon playing balloon volley ball, such a simple game but its great for hand eye coordination, and is always a good team building exercise that both residents and staff can enjoy together.

We celebrated the Chinese New Year in style. We watched a beautiful Dragon Dance show from Hong Kong on our large screen, ate Chinese spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce and prawn crackers, we listened to relaxing Chinese Music and learnt a little about the History of the Chinese Rulers.

We have made a beautiful dried flower wreath from flowers that have been sent in to Residents throughout the year.

We love the Craft Sessions and can't wait to getting potting seeds and bulbs for Spring.

There was some lovely work produced in our mindful colouring session. Residents listened to relaxing mindful music whilst producing their pieces. These sessions aim to improve focus and concentration and reduce stress. We finished off our session with a herbal tea.

There was a really lovely atmosphere at our Flower Arranging Club last week with beautiful bunches of brightly coloured spray Carnations. They looked so lovely that it prompted us to decorate the window area too.

A women's work is never done, but we had lots of fun at Bowerfield House sorting and pairing all these socks up. With Vera and Pauline on the job it didn't take long to pair up every one’s socks. They are all nicely put away in everyone's bedroom ready for another day.

Last month, one of the residents enjoyed a nostalgic seaside jigsaw puzzle. We talked about trips to the seaside when we were younger and our favourite seaside activities.

The residents had a delicious Chinese dish for lunch. Either Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice or Vegetable stir fry. They enjoyed the decorations and the fun fortune cookies. We also found out which animal each resident is is regards to the Chinese calendar.

Residents celebrated National Nutella Day when residents took part in Baking Club as they prepared a chocolate cheesecake which our residents enjoyed with an afternoon cup of tea.

Bowerfield House enjoyed taking part in Dignity Day, we had staff and residents write on a wooden heart and display it on the dignity tree.

Residents enjoyed their exercise sessions last week using their pom poms. The swimming and shopping themed exercise were liked by the majority of the residents, we then finished of the day with a couple of games of dominoes.
