James Martin cooks up interest in healthy eating at Monread Lodge

A recently refurbished Hertfordshire-based care home is set to mark the opening of its new dementia unit and demonstrate its focus on healthy eating with a visit from a top celebrity chef. James Martin is to make a special appearance at the Monread Lodge Care Home ‘Healthy Eating, Happy Living’ open event on Wednesday 14 September.

Residents and guests at the care facility will be treated to a live cookery demonstration by the famous chef who is currently hitting the headlines for his project to improve the quality of food served in hospitals. The campaign was inspired by James’ grandmother, who he credits as the inspiration for his career in cookery.

"We’re proud of the superb level of care we provide to residents and that will be no different in our new dedicated dementia wing, Knebworth Court," says Care Manager Sophia Roxas. "James’ current hospital food campaign and the inspiration provided by his grandmother mean that he fits perfectly with our values and is a great person to help us mark this occasion. Everyone has worked hard to ensure both the new dementia facility and the Monread Lodge refurbishment programme are absolutely top quality and this is an ideal opportunity for members of the public to be able to come and see what we can offer.

"The live cookery demonstrations will ensure a lively, exciting atmosphere throughout the day and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the care units and to ask staff about the services we provide.

"We’re extending the invitation to the whole community on 14 September – it’s going to be a great day with an important message and we’re all looking forward to a good turnout. It’s an opportunity for anyone who is considering elderly care to come along with their families and learn about what we have to offer in a fun, relaxed and informal atmosphere."

The Knebworth Court facility has been purpose-built to offer specialised care to dementia sufferers. All rooms in the 16-bed unit have en-suite facilities, with expert staff on-hand 24 hours a day and it can cater for residents requiring all different levels of support. Monread Lodge itself offers high-quality nursing, palliative residential, and personal care, as well as day and respite care. The recent rejuvenation included the refurbishment of all common areas within the building and the installation of new lighting.
