Care providers, Maria Mallaband Care Group and Countrywide Care Homes have introduced free Wi-Fi access for residents and visitors in their care homes.
Plans to roll out Wi-Fi to the group’s homes came in response to the growing use of internet services amongst older people.
It is hoped that the introduction of Wi-Fi access will help to enrich the lives of residents by enabling them to achieve a greater sense of social inclusion and promote mental stimulation.
Wi-Fi access throughout the home means that residents can pursue their individual personal interests such as reading local and national news, accessing information on topics of interest, keeping up to date with World affairs and enjoying some online shopping.
For family members or friends who live far way, internet access makes it easier for residents to keep in touch through social media, email and other communications software such as Skype which allows them to make audio and video calls.
