Q: What will happen if more serious medical problems arise while I'm in care?
Our staff are trained to deal with all types of medical emergencies and are highly qualified to look after the needs of all our residents. If a particular complication means a different type of care - for instance, nursing rather than residential - should be required, we will discuss this with you and your family and make every effort to make the transition as smooth as possible. As many of our homes provide residential and nursing care, this may not mean leaving your current home.
Q: Are all care homes registered and thoroughly inspected?
Yes, all care homes must comply with the law and with the registering Authority's own guidelines in order to guarantee a high standard of care. Every home also undergoes regular inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), after which a report is sent to the home with any recommendations and actions required. We will be happy to provide copies of individual reports; alternatively they can be downloaded from www.cqc.org.uk.
Q: Does every resident receive a care plan?
Every incoming resident is assessed prior to admission to ensure they receive the care best suited for their needs. Your family or friends may be involved in this process if they so choose. An individual care plan is then created which sets out how staff will meet your needs. Care plans are reviewed monthly and will be updated when requirements change.

Q: What is the visiting policy?
Most of the homes operate an open-house visiting policy, but we do ask visitors to kindly avoid meal times. Please contact your specific care home for further details.
Q: How can I arrange a visit to one of the homes?
Visiting a Maria Mallaband care home is a great way of selecting the right one for you or your loved one. Simply call the number provided on the webpage of the individual home (under our home, our locations) and explain that you'd like to arrange a visit. The staff will then make all of the appropriate arrangements.
Q: How do I know if I am/my loved one is ready to move to a care home?
Deciding to move into a care home, or realising that your loved ones can no longer manage at home, is often difficult and upsetting. It is a very personal choice and requires a lot of preparation and consideration. Discuss the options with your family and loved ones, as well as your doctor, to decide if the time is right.
Q: I enjoy my freedom and I am worried about losing my independence...
At Maria Mallaband, we actively encourage our residents to be as independent and social as possible. However, many people also find comfort in knowing that care is available around the clock.
Q: Can I redecorate my room?
Most of our care homes encourage residents to bring small items of furniture and other personal belongings from home to individualise their room. Contact the specific care home for more details about this.
All our bedrooms are maintained to a high standard, and we ensure that any redecoration is carried out with minimal inconvenience to the resident. We also offer a choice of décor where appropriate.
