Stockport care homes filled with the sound of music
More than 50 residents, staff and guests were welcomed to two Stockport care homes last week to celebrate the opening of one brand new residence and the complete refurbishment of another. The neighbouring Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG) residences, Bowerfield Court and Bowerfield House, opened to the sound of music in Disley.
Double world champion motorcycle racer, James Toseland, made a special visit to Stockport on Friday 19 June to officially open the residences with a breathtaking live piano performance. Taught how to play the piano by his grandmother, James was delighted to be invited to the opening event, held at Bowerfield Court.
MMCG Chairman Phil Burgan, Bowerfield Court Manager Jackie Campbell and Bowerfield House Manager Ian Parker-Moore welcomed guests before introducing MotoGP contender Toselands solo piano performance. He also took part in a Q&A session afterwards and signed prints for everyone who requested them. After lunch, there was more music as the children from Whaley Bridge Primary School choir sang.
Jackie Campbell said: A big thank you to James and to the children for entertaining our residents, staff and guests and for making the opening of our two residences so special. It was a great afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by all.
MMCG is renowned for providing high standards of care in a friendly environment. Bowerfield Court was completed in January 2009 and has been designed with the requirements of physically disabled adults in mind. The two-storey property accommodates up to 40 residents in single ensuite bedrooms, which are decorated to a high standard and include fully fitted furniture.
Bowerfield House is reopening after an extensive refurbishment and has been designed specifically for elderly residents diagnosed with dementia. Located next to Bowerfield Court, it accommodates 27 residents in luxurious single ensuite bedrooms.
Both properties belong to Leeds-based MMCG, which was established in 1996 and is now one of the UKs leading care providers. The group owns 52 homes across the UK, which can offer specialist care and nursing services for residents with dementia and physical disabilities.
